Chapter 5

The rest of the week flys by, and suddenly it's Saturday, and I'm heading to the callback.

I get up at 6:30, even though it doesn't start until 10:00.

I am too excited for sleep, so I drag myself out of bed and begin to scroll through Twitter.

I glance at the posts of my friends from school and 13, then decide to put my phone away and pick out an outfit for the callback.

An hour later, I'm positive that I've picked the perfect outfit.

I quickly change into a pale yellow blouse with white detail on the sides, light wash skinny jeans, and brown riding boots.

I brush my hair back into my usual half up, half down look, and add a white ribbon on top.

By this time it's almost 8:00, so I run downstairs to be greeted with the amazing smells of a homemade breakfast.

"Surprise honey. I thought I should do something special for this important day," my mom says, gesturing to the table.

It's coved with every type of breakfast food I can imagine, bacon and eggs, muffins, and fresh fruit.

"Thank you so much! This looks delicious," I say as I pull up a chair and begin to indulge in the yummy breakfast.

As I pull up to the place where the audition is being held, butterflies begin to flutter around in my stomach.

I take a deep breath, which is supposed to be calming, and let it out slowly, choking in the process.

After I regain normal breath, I step out of my car and head into the building.

When I walk in, I see that it is the same set up as last time, with the numbers and woman at the desk.

I go up to the desk, grab a number and a script and sit in one of the many chairs surrounding the room.

I glance at my number and see that I am number 4. I did get here early, so that would explain that.

I hear them begin to call number and started to read over the script.

It's over a scene where "Cat", who I'm auditioning for, is at a karaoke club with "Jade".

It also has an excert of a song I will have to sing called "Give it up"

The material seems easy enough, and soon I hear my number being called.

I am much more calm this time, so I grab my things and walk into the room.

As I enter, I see a man with a camera, the director, and another woman.

The director motions to the floor, where I see a X made out of yellow tape.

I go over to the X and position myself in the center, then look to the director for more instruction.

"Ariana Grande?" He asks.

"Yes, sir?"

"You may begin."

I begin to read the lines, where "Cat" is with "Jade" talking to a couple of popular girls.

Then I begin to sing the song "Give it up."

About half way through, the director cuts me off.

"That was very good, Ariana. You have a very distinctive voice. My only concern is your acting. You'll need to make your voice much hight to play Cat. Can you do that?"

"Yes, of course."

"We'll let you know the results in a couple of days, thank you for coming in. Good bye."

"Bye."

I leave the room, feeling unnaturally hopeful.
