Okay. Vampires do exist.

BREATHE IN. BREATHE OUT.

This was something that Way was got a hard time trying to accept. In all the years of his life, he believed that there were only humans. He could accept something like aliens as a possibility with the universe being vast. But a vampire? They were supposed to be myths; a story to fascinate adults or to scare children.

The man on the other room had proven himself to be one of these mythical creatures. The fangs, the biting and his memories... they were something he couldn't disregard.

This was making his head hurt that he made an excuse of going to the bathroom to get some sense of what was happening to him.

He washed his hands as he wallowed in his thought but something caught his eye when he looked in the mirror. There was something in his neck. At first he thought that it was dirt and tried to wash it with water. Nothing happened. The mark was still there. He became irritated and used soap, hoping it would be washed away. It was still the same. Only then did Way looked closer and came into a realization.

"What the fuck! ROO" He couldn't stop the curse coming out of his mouth.

When Roo heard the loud yell, he smirked. He did not even move from where he stood, waiting patiently to watch the little spitfire raise hell in his home. The chaos and excitement Weilin brought to his home was a welcomed change. He was sure of it. From now on, his years on earth will be interesting.

As he expected, the shorter male came back with a fiery temper, his eyes attempting to slice Roo inch by inch judging from that glare he was sporting.

"Who the hell put a tattoo on me?! My mother will break my neck if she saw this." Way pointed at his neck, wanting an explanation and then wondered aloud. He touched the patch of skin on his neck where the mark was. "Shouldn't this hurt?"

It was a simple black band that goes around his neck with a ornate symbol at where there should be a bite mark. His skin was unblemished except for the ink that was now decorating his neck. It can't be covered with a band aid like a hickey.

The first thing that came to his mind once he found out that it was permanent was his mother's enraged reaction. She practically abhorred tattoos. From their childhood and even their adult lives, he and his brother were told day by day the consequences if she see a smidgen of tattoo or any part of their body. It seemed like if he wanted to see the light of day when he visits his parents.

The vampire took his time before answering, fixing himself a glass of fine wine that was worth a month's of Way's salary, slowly taking a sip. Way felt a tick on his temple as he waited but he kept his mouth shut, wanting to know what's going on.

"The exchange of blood has this effect. I drank yours while healing your wound while you drank mine to save your life. As long as you have my blood on your system, you'll be stronger than usual and you won't sick easily."

"How long?"

"Not long. Just a couple of months or half a year?" Roo lied effortlessly. It was a permanent thing that has health benefit as a side benefit. The mark has more power than Way would realize.

There was nothing wrong about how Roo answered him. But the answered left him in a suspicious mood.

"There's something you're not telling me." Way felt that there was something more to the mark that magically appeared neck. At first it looked like a black band around his neck but on closer inspection, the line was some sort of script he couldn't understand. It really looked like a tattoo.

"Fuck! My mother will cut my balls if she sees this." Way ran a hand through his hair in his frazzled state.

Roo watched as the younger male tried to calm himself after such an ordeal. It was a fascinating thing to watch for the vampire when he had seen other humans act like an annoying pest after finding out what he really was. Those humans worship people like him and it was unsightly thing to witness. This particular human however do not act like them. He was defiant and childish, but the way he was accepting of the situation was a lot more mature than the other ones. Way was taking everything better than anyone he had met. Roo was happy that he made the right choice with the exchange and keeping some things secret. Only when the right time comes will he reveal the truth to the human. It was safer that way for the both of them.

"Let's talk about the rules." Roo said once Way had calmed down.

"What rules?"

The vampire pretended he heard nothing and continued. "There's only two rules you must follow.

One. You shall not tell anyone of the existence of vampires. Keeping your mouth shut also means you get to keep your life.

And two, wearing the mark means that you will be staying here with me in this house. As long as that mark remains in your neck, it makes you mine. In my world, you are my property. If that is hard for your to swallow, think of it like you won a lottery. What mine is yours."

Way almost spit at blood after hearing the rules. It sounded like crap especially the last one. He was fully aware of the vampire's interest in him. He believed that the mark was just an excuse.

"No way!" Way stomped his foot stubbornly when he heard the last bit. No way would he let this vampire own him like a property. "You are not the boss of me! Your rules suck!"

"If you want to survive in my world, being a vampire's property is a small price to pay. You forget that human lives are a mere blink in ours." Roo had never looked so domineering except now. Not only with his tall height and lean yet muscular physique was the vampire appear intimidating but with his eyes alone, Roo screamed power that would send anyone to his knees.

Way was unaffected, probably because of defiant nature, Roo was unable to.

Weilin stubbornly went home by himself, walking for almost an hour before reaching the main road. Roo's house was out of people's way, making it a hassle to travel to. Still, the human male pushed himself to go home. He left Roo's house in the afternoon and only arrived around seven in the evening.

His decision to go home was something he regretted as soon as he stepped into his small room that he calls an apartment. It was almost like a shoe box.  Leaving Roo's house felt like a great idea at the time when the relic made decisions without consulting him.  And the words he said at the end was too much for his pride to take. He was a living thinking human being not some vampire's pet. The vampire brought out the worst in him. Controlling people grates his nerves.

The uncomfortable silence in his apartment brought an unexplained fear in him. It felt like everything and anything was going to attack him. His legs lost its strength. He sank on the floor like jelly in the middle of his living room. He put his hands over his hair and covered his face with his arms. Why of all times did he felt fear now?

Everything has happened from being attacked to being saved, all those swirls or emotions have only sunk into him. Way only realized then that the world is a much scarier place that he thought. There were more to the world  that meets the eye. With vampires existence a reality, it was no leap to conclude that there were other supernatural beings living among them. Those stories he read as when he was younger, for sure they have an origin. It was a wake up call for him that they might actually be real like the monsters under the bed and fairies that tricks you to slavery.

Way didn't feel safe anymore in his place. Was this why people say, 'innocence is bliss'?

Maybe.... he should have stayed in his place.
