Chapter 2
The door opened to reveal a huge stone room. The room was almost half a mile long and half a mile wide. There were people and make shift beds everywhere. The great room echoed with the cry of babies and people talking. People stopped and stared at us as we walked down the great hall. 'You'll see.' was the response I got of Brian when I asked him why. At the end of the hall we came to two small but thick metal doors. On either side stood two men with swords. After brief words with Brian and hesitant looks at me we were aloud past the doors. Harry turned and headed back the way we came.
We went through the doors and up a flight of stairs. To my surprise we entered the remains of a hotel lobby. This too had two men with swords, striding past two large metal doors. They stopped when they saw us, raising there swords. 'who goes there?' boomed the largest of the pair, a thick set man with brown curly hair.
'Hi lance,' says Brian coolly. 'were going up to Kevin.'
'All right you know the drill.' his eyes drifted to me. 'who's your little friend?'
I had been looked at like that before. Their eyes first go to the boots a size or two too big, then to the pants with a badly patched hole in the knee. Their eyes then move to the three jackets I had on and finally to my mud streaked face and dirty, knotted hair. So I just smiled at him.
'She's a friend.' was all he said.
'Well, we have to check her as well.'
With that they proceeded to check my bag and pockets for weapons. The other guard stopped suddenly with a grunt. 'I thought so...' and with that he pulled my jacket off me until the knife I had had, fell to the floor with a clatter. 'well, well, well what else have you been hiding from us, eh?'
'Oh' I said surprised, I had forgotten I had it there. 'Oops I forgot about that...'
'Ya sure you did!' with a hard tug he pulled the other two jackets off me and shook them vigorously. Satisfied that the knife was the only weapon on me, they threw my jackets back.
'Can I have my knife back?' they laughed at me.
'No consider it confiscated- that means its-'
'Ya I know what that means!' I growled at him. Turning to Brian I said 'can we go now?'
'Ah, ya sure.' said Brian, a look pasted over his face, but was gone before I could think about it.
And with that the two guards let us pass, with a scowl at me, to the doors. Brian led the way through the doors and up a wide, thick stairs. At the top of the stairs we turned left. While walking down the corridor we pasted a large polished peace of metal in a frame. I looked in the mirror and gasped.
Through the mirror I could see my reflection only I looked different. Instead of the usual dark brown my hair was orange. Not the usual red/orange on peoples hair but actual luminous orange! I swung around to Brian. 'Why didn't you tell me about my hair!' I demanded. ' This is why those people were staring at me! Why is it like this?'
'Im sorry I didn't think you would see it until we got up to Kevin, and Yes that's why people are staring at you.'
'Who is Kevin and why is it so important that we see him?' I demanded.
'He's the one who helped find this place, he's kind of in charge of this place and he's my brother.'
'Wait.. Kevin, your brother Kevin! Why didn't you say that in the first place?'
'I didn't think it would matter, why would you have still have tried to sneak a knife in here if I had told you?'
'I didn't try to sneak the knife I just forgot I had it there.'
