"Why do you think she made a mark next to our names?" whispered Mirage to Prism. The two friends were gathering fruit, occasionally putting some into their mouths instead of into their woven baskets.
"Probably 'cause we actually paid some attention to her," shrugged Prism. "And we actually care about whether or not we die. Honestly, I love suntime just as much as any RainWing, and I don't want some NightWing coming along and ruining it with their rotten selves." She popped a raspberry into her mouth.
"I wonder if Iguana is going to fight." Mirage tried to mention the name casually, but Prism knew her too well.
"Mmmmmmhm. I hear the dreaminess in your voice, you know."
"Dreaminess? What dreaminess?"
"The dreaminess whenever you mention Iguana."
Mirage tossed her head. "I have no idea what you're talking about."
Prism managed a sarcastic, "Suuuuuuure," and ducked as Mirage threw a grapefruit at her.
"Don't you dare mention this to him," Mirage threatened, holding up two more grapefruit.
Prism ducked behind a bush. "Mirage and Iguana, flying in the sky, getting all k-i-s--" She broke off as the grapefruit were hurled in her direction.
"I'll get you!" called Mirage, growling and playfully making war paint out of berry juice. Her second mistake, thought Prism gleefully, camouflaging. While Mirage's war decor would betray her position should she try to camouflage, Prism would stay undecorated until the end. She hastily grabbed a talonful of the nearest fruit, which happened to be a bunch of grapes, and stealthily crept towards Mirage, who was still yelling out threats to empty air.
"I'll get you--" Mirage was abruptly cut off but grapes being shoved right into her open mouth.
"You'll be what now?" Prism asked innocently.
Mirage glared at her friend, wrathfully chewing the grapes. Prism chortled with laughter and put some more war paint on Mirage's snout. "Oh, if Iguana could see you now I'm sure he'd propose immediately," giggled Prism.
Mirage finally swallowed and spat out a seed. "If he ever hears of this--"
"Haven't you learned not to threaten me yet?" Prism resumed picking fruit, hiding a diabolical smile. "But don't worry, I won't tell." She paused for a moment. "At least, not until after you have dragonets."
Mirage opened her mouth to say something, then shut it. "Just you wait, Prism, just you wait. One day you'll fall in love and I'll crow about it for so long." Mirage stopped to peel an orange. "At least until you have dragonets," she mimicked smugly. Mirage knew that Prism preferred to be single and was constantly teasing her about it.
Prism threw a starfruit at her, then both friends giggled.
Ah, gotta love best friends. OtakuGeekyBifeuxnen
