Rico Carter
Bandz a make her dance by Juicy J blasted through the speakers while Dija backed her ass up on me.
I bit down on my bottom lip as I watched the way her hips rotated, imagining it was Destiny and that's when I realized I needed to respond to Destiny's text.
"Save that energy, I'll be right back I gotta take a leak." I yelled over the music in Dija's ear.
Dija nodded her head.
I headed towards the men's bathroom and immediately checked my phone.
I furrowed an eyebrow as I realized I missed a phone call from Destiny.
I quickly called her back.
"H-hello." Destiny sniffled.
"Des, wassup? Are you crying?" My eyes widened.
"Yeah, I'm sorry if I'm interrupting something." Her voice cracked.
"No, you good baby girl. I'm here, what's wrong?"
"My brother was rushed to the hospital, he's sick. I just found out he has cancer." Destiny broke down in my ear.
I ran my hand down my face. I felt bad for Destiny. I felt bad that I wasn't there to hold her.
"Damn Des, I'm so sorry to hear that. Are you at the hospital now? Do you need me to swing by? I can leave-."
"No Rico please don't let me ruin your night. I just needed someone to vent too. Jasmine is at work and Justice is sleep."
"Stop being stubborn pretty boo. You know I'll be there for you in a heart beat girl. You scared the shit out of me."
"I'm sorry I didn't mean to scare you. I just wasn't expecting my brother to be diagnosed with cancer." Destiny started crying again.
"Des, you sure you don't want me to come? because I will."
"I'm serious Rico, I'll be fine babe. I want you to have fun at your friend's birthday party. Don't worry about me I'll be okay. I don't want to hold you up, so text me when you can. I love you."
"I feel like I should come comfort you, but since you don't want me to I won't force it. Let me know if you need anything or to talk again, aight? Keep your head up, your bro gon' be good. I'll keep your bro & your fam in my prayers. I love you too."
The line went silent and I slid my phone back in my pocket.
I paced back in forth with my hands in my pocket.
Ever since Destiny admitted how she felt about me we've gotten hella close.
The more we talk the stronger my feelings get for her.
I want her back, but I'm stuck in a predicament that I can't seem to get out.
Here I am celebrating one of my best friend's birthday while I feel the need to comfort Destiny.
"Babe." I jumped as I seen Dija standing in the men's bathroom door.
"Dammit Dija you scared the shit out of me."
"Geesh I'm sorry." She chuckled. "I just came to check on you. You good?"
"Yeah I'm good. My mom called to see where I was." I lied.
"You didn't tell your mom you was going to Sean's party?" Dija gasped.
"Nah, I forgot." I followed Dija back out to the party.
