Chapter 1 :
"You're different," Aiden Parr's clear voice booms throughout the open landscape.
I keep my hazel eyes fixed on the burning grass in front of me. The orange flames fly all the way up to the blue June sky. "That's kind of what happens in a five month span of time," I reach my palm out and the flames trail toward me.
The flames land smack in the middle of my small palm then crawl their way up my arm. It crosses my torso until it lands just above my heart. Quickly I inhale before the flame enters my body and my veins light up. It travels up my throat suffocating me with their toxin, but I've gotten so used to this feeling I'm beginning to love it, beginning to get addicted. The feeling of fire running through your veins is something left for the demons to explain.
"New trick?" I don't need to be able to see Aiden in order for me to know he's fidgeting with his hands.
My lips tug up at the corners as I begin to slowly turn around to face Aiden Parr. His golden eyes and hair make my smile quickly fade into a pout.
I've seen him nearly every day for five months but today his figure strikes me. I'm not sure if it's the white crew neck or more sparkle in the gold streaks of his eyes, but he brings me back.
His eyes reflect the stars of New York where I used to wish I could see. I remember my chest would fall each time I stepped out into the night and all I saw was the fake shining lights.
I remember Aiden almost killed me, when he wanted to kill Chase Morgenstern...
I physically shiver at the mention of Chase Morgenstern. His touch still lingers on my bare skin and his kiss is permanently stained on my lips.
"You have that look in your eyes again," Aiden makes me forget the emerald eyes I thought I loved and make me focus on the golden ones in front of me.
"What look?" I shrug and try and play it off cool. I've been caught by him more times than I'd like to admit.
"You know, the look you always get when you day dream about Mr. Dreamy."
I roll my eyes at Aiden and playfully shove his shoulder. "I thought last week he was called Green Bastard?"
Aiden shrugs and gives me a sly smile. "I like to shake things up a bit."
Our laughter lingers between us like fog after the rain. We've gotten closer, way closer than how we were five months ago. We've grown together and spiral on Sebastian like a ribbon.
Thinking of Sebastian, his cold and pale hand grips my shoulder. His touch is strong enough to send your whole body into frostbite.
Sebastian's black eyes reflect his soul, hollowed out and dark. He's the kind of person who can destroy someone by death glaring them. He's the kind of person who can rule the world under his agenda.
"I have a encounter to give to you," Sebastian's voice comes out strong completely oblivious to my rattling hands.
"Encounter?" I swallow back my confusion as I continue to stare at his porcelain face. I'll always remember the shine of his platinum hair under the moonlight of the day he escaped from Under the Stars.
Somewhere in the stars is where we'll meet.
I shiver as I mentally whisper those words to myself. Funny thing is, I've never actually been 'Under the Stars.' I only have the faint memory locked in my head.
"The Dragon of Rebirth," Sebastian's deep voice distracts me from the fact that I only see and hear real things now. He's helped me control the demons of the other side. "I need you to find it."
