I closed up the shop and we were off. He started telling me all about his childhood with his mom. His dad had left when he was little making him and his mom, Claire is what he told me, become closer. They depended on eachother. But as the years went by his mother got older and it was more difficult for him to see her struggling at sixty. "I'm scared to see her go. I know I sound like a total mommas boy but shes my mom. She's my hero."
A mommas boy isnt bad. He'll treat you right. "Well shes not gone Jace. You shouldn't limit your time with her. If she means the world to you spend as much time with her as possible, it helps and im sure she would love it." I said. We were walking down the sidewalk of Burrow avenue were everyone in town is always busy. It was like your neighborhood park. Green trimmed grass, a playground for kids, little shops to get a snack or drink. It was peaceful. There was barely any crime here in Willowstown but the drunk drivers. So people stayed off the streets at night.
"Chelsea? " he asked. "Yes?"
"What about your mother? I thought she would work with you at the shop. I mean that's what ive always seen before in other places. It's like a mother and daughter business, no?" I never thought someone would actually notice. I try to keep that held in most of the time when people asked if someone worked with me.
"My mom did work with me a while ago. But she wanted to travel, to see other places with her new husband. She wanted me to go but I refused, I feel like my place is here. I dont know why but I cant imagine myself leaving. So I took the shop as my own." He let it sink in like he was thinking too hard. I guess it wasn't what he was expecting. "Well wonder if you ever met someone. You fall in love, want a new chapter in your life? And he wants to start fresh in a new place?" I thought about it for a couple seconds. I saw that we were coming across a little home that i've always passed on the way home, when I answered, "Well, it's never happened so I guess i'll see when it does. Wont I?"
He just smiled. "We're here." he looked up and sighed. The house looked like a cottage with its brown bricks and bright flowers on the steps and windowsills. To my suprize they were all lilies. "I've always passed this house on my way home. I always admired how it looked."
We walked up to the door, where he unlocked the door. As we walked in, I was hit with the smell of lilies and the sweet aroma of apple-cinnamon candles. It smelled homey. "Jace?, is that you?" I heard a soft voice say. "Yeah. I hope you dont mind, we have some company. " he looked at me and smiled. I heard little footsteps coming towards us, when I saw slippers in the doorway and attached to them was a middle aged women. It's his mother, aw she's so small. "Oh we do? let me see." As she came closer, I observed her. she was pretty, blonde hair thats greying slightly. Small frame, bright brown eyes that you can see she was always happy. "Oh my, hello. You are beautiful! Jace why didnt you bring her sooner! What's your name honey." Aw she id so sweet. "Chelsea. " I say. Jace walked over to her and put his hand on her shoulder. "I haven't brought her sooner because ive only known her for a little while. She's the one that give me your flowers all the time. She wanted to meet you." Claire's eyes brightened up immediately. "Oh! come come! I love your lillies! we must talk! Who wants some tea?" she explained as she walked into what I assumed was her kitchen. "She's adorable. " I laughed. Jace just looked off into the kitchen. "It's not often she gets company, let alone from another female. So she's pretty excited. "
"Jace! bring her in! I cant be walking back and forth, im old now. Let's go!" From what I could tell, Claire was happy at this moment and im going to be in for a treat.
"Im glad you came with me. Maybe with you around, I can handle this better." jace told me as we walked into the small kitchen.
