"THERE." SCOTT POINTED TO a woman in the crowd. "My mom." He said.

When she made eyes with him she started waving intensely and walked- almost ran- in our direction. When she was almost there, Scott dropped our bags to the floor and met her in a big bear hug. She was way smaller than him, so he looked like he was smothering her with his arms, but she didn't mind, and put one hand in his hair, in a motherly protective way, the way my mother had done that day in her room. I shut the memory off and concentrated in the happy picture in front of me.

Eventually, they pulled away from each other. "I've missed you so much, Scott." She told her.

"I've missed you too, mom." He said as he pecked his cheek. Then, he turned to face me and took my hand. I loved it so much every time he made contact with my skin that I didn't pull away, even if her mother would think I was something that I wasn't, AKA, his girlfriend. I had sensed his panic when I mentioned the word "together" and I couldn't say it didn't disappoint me. I had known from the start that it would never get to that point, but seeing the hurt in his eyes when I told him my story earlier today, had made me think, that maybe he cared for me more than I thought he did. I had been foolish, I knew that now.

His mother was surprised to see me, hadn't Scott told me that he had told her we were coming. Well, he hadn't actually said the words, he just said that he had called her. Maybe he let out the part about me. Great.

"This is your friend, Scott?" She asked him teasingly. He looked guilty. So, he had told her mother a friend was coming with him, her mother probably didn't imagine his "friend" to be a girl.

"Yes, mom, this is Steph. Steph, Gloria." He introduced us.

"Hi, Gloria, I'm glad to finally meet you." I told her.

"You too honey. So, has this one told you something about his old mother at all?" He asked.

"Yeah, he talked a lot about you." I answered. She smiled, and I could tell that it was an exact replica of her son's.

"You must be tired, let's go to my place." She said. Scott lifted our bags from the floor.

"I'm sorry for the short notice, I don't want to be an invader in your home, so I can book a..." I started saying.

She raised her hand and stopped me.

"None of that honey, I have plenty of space for the three of us, and I assure you that the more people in my home the better." She said exited.

I smiled and thank her. Then we walked outside and headed to her car.

Scott and Gloria dedicated the forty minutes of the trip to her house to catch up. He told her about school and lacrosse, while she talked to him about work and her friends here. She worked in an advertising company, and for what I heard of, she held an important spot on it. I noticed that they talked often at home, they spoke like they had seen each other a few days ago.

She stopped in a building parking's lot. We got out of the car and followed her inside.

"The new color is looking great, mom." Scott told her when we were inside her apartment as he admired the walls.

"It is, isn't it?" She responded. I didn't say anything, I didn't know what color they were before, but this light green really looked amazing with the rest of the furniture. The place was way bigger than I had pictured it to be, it was spacious and open. The room where we stood now was the living room, and to the left there was the kitchen, which was separated from it by a bar. This apartment reminded me much of Aly's house, it had lots of perky colors and paintings hanging in the walls that were actually pretty, not like the awful ones in my house.
