Sections of Song:
"And I elongated my lift home,
Yeah I let him go the long way round
I smelt your scent on the seatbelt
And kept my shortcuts to myself"
"Tell me where's your hiding place
I'm worried I'll forget your face
And I've asked everyone
And I'm beginning to think I imagined you all along"
Origin of Song:
Alex Turner stated to Uncut Magazine that he recorded this light-hearted love song about meeting girls in pubs who reminded him of the one he was trying to forget, "one morning, quite quickly." He added: "There's something to be said for writing in the morning. At other points in the day you're a bit more defensive. I saw it as a challenge to write something in a major key, but that wasn't cheesy."
My Thoughts:
Above all, this is my favorite Arctic Monkeys song. The storyline is something I'm very familiar with (in the sense of trying to replace an ex-girlfriend). Overall, it's something everyone can relate to. Who hasn't felt the sorrow of a lover's departure? But the finest quality of this song is the balance. Not only does it capture the unbearable feeling of wanting someone who doesn't want you back, it plays out like a silly quest to find a doppelganger of her. I won't give away the ending of this song because as the title states, you have to listen to this song before you die.
***NOTE***
This is dedicated to PoptartsGoRawr. I was scrolling in the homepage when I came across "Epically epic songs that everyone should hear at least once in their life._." which instantly inspired me to do one of my own. Check her work out after this, why don't you?
