Escape

The Test Sweep was going to start the next day. Xavier and I already had our plan set. A few scars were forming where I had had the injections. The injection in my neck started to grow into a large lump with a few bumps lined around it. It felt horrible to the touch. My leg was twisting in an unusual way, like my bones were rearranging. My toes were now merely nubs on my foot. I was changing into some mutant...

I scratched my right arm furiously as I sat in my tent. It looked like I was forming some kind of rash. We were going to escape in a few minutes. I had little hopes of making it out alive. But Xavier had such high hopes. He motivated me to escape.

My heart beat heavily against my chest. By trying to escape, we would be asking for death. Everyone knew it was a suicide mission. But everyone was gone now. Thanks to the doctor's injections, everyone was a monster. Xavier and I were still functioning correctly, even though we were forming into those fiends. This is hell. I mumbled softly. This place is truly hell.

It was time. We were finally going to escape. I peeked out of my tent for any sight of Xavier. I saw him peek out of his tent and wave his hand. I smiled and waved back. Now. The time was now.

As the men in white brought in several different people for the Test Sweep, Xavier and I stealthily creeped to the back of the large building. The whole place was surrounded by gates. We decided that climbing over the gate and running would make a simple plan.

The only blind spot there was was behind the wide building. Luckily, no one went there, so we had a chance of not being caught. I feared the thought of running because the land was flat and bare. Anyone would be able to see us even if we were about 10 miles away!

A-Alexia, are you okay? Xavier asked, looking at my injections with worry. I'm fine... I murmured, glancing at his own deformed body. He had several injuries that the doctor had patched up with stitches. They were most likely caused from the doctor's injections. Xavier looked at me worriedly before explaining the plan.

Okay, all we need to do is climb over the gate without being spotted. Once we hit the floor, we have to run like hell. Do you think you can do it? He asked with a serious and determined look in his eyes. I gave my response by nodding. Yeah, I breathed deeply to keep calm.

Alright, Xavier nodded back, staring at me intensely. I gave him a look and he turned away. Is something wrong? I asked, wondering if my face was starting to deform as well. He just quickly shook his head. It's nothing... Come on.

He started to climb up the large gate. I looked around to make sure no one was watching, and I soon joined him when the area was clear. I tried to stay silent as I climbed, but I found it difficult. My leg was still in its odd, twisted form that made it hard to walk, let alone climb. Xavier already made it to the top of the gate, lending his hand down for my advantage. I tried to climb up closer and reached his hand.

I clasped my hand around his and used it to boost me up the gate. I reached the top with him, breathing heavily. I was in no shape for this!

Xavier looked down, planning to carefully slide down. While he did that, I looked around and panicked when a man in white had spotted me. I gasped and jumped down, hurting myself in the process. Xavier, we have to run! I called to him, starting to run awkwardly. He followed close behind.

I limped and looked back to see if the man had been following us. I saw him come around the gate, chasing us with a few other men at his sides. They were armed. We can't make it! I said between gasps for air. Xavier glanced back at the men and frowned. Alexia, I-..He was interrupted by a loud bang. He was struck down.

I stopped running for a second to look back at him. Xavier! I called with tears starting to form in my eyes. The men were getting closer. Go! Go! Just go! Leave me, I'll be fine! Xavier coughed as he lay on the dusty ground. I hesitated before continuing to run with my tears flying out of my eyes. Eventually, I ran out of breath and slowed my pace.

That was a terrible mistake. The last thing I heard was another loud bang and I closed my eyes with the sun brightly shining in front of my eyes.
