*Shark's POV*

Why does he want that bastard's number?

I don't put my D-Gazer down even when I've sent the message. His text pings back quickly, a thanks accompanied by a smiling face. Just knowing that he is smiling at me, even through a text, makes my heart soar.

I could be overreacting. Maybe he just wants Kite's number because they're friends? But that can't be it, yet I really hope it is.

I lie back on my bed and feel tears pricking the backs of my eyes. God, I knew it would be like this. I'm no good for a person like M/N. He's prefect and I'm...I'm nothing. A nobody. Useless. He deserves Kite. They're made for each other.

Tears run down my face and they won't stop. I try to wipe them away, but I give up.

I love M/N.

I love him more than anything, almost as much as I love my sister. But I know it's not meant to be.

M/N, why?

*M/N's POV*

Early morning sunlight hits me right in the face. Yeah, I forgot to close the curtains last night. Whoops.

I sit up and I don't hear anything, so I assume that Chase is still in bed. I get up, still in my uniform because I was too lazy to change last night. I put my D-Gazer in my pocket and enter the kitchen, and begin to make some coffee for the both of us. Chase can't function without coffee in the morning.

I feel the press of a blade against my throat. I know the feeling well, but I know that this isn't Chase joking around (Like he ever jokes around) so I don't move, I don't even dare breathe because I have no idea who this person is.

"Hello, M/N." I know that voice. It's sweet and charming, but there's venom in there too.

"Hey, X," I say quietly, careful not to wake up Chase because these walls do not need blood on them, "Any reason why you're holding a knife to my neck?"

"Yes, actually. I was wondering...You know dear little Hart Tenjo's older brother, right?"

"Who?" Yeah, that's right, M/N. play dumb, and maybe he'll go away.

"Kite Tenjo," X's voice isn't so sweet anymore, "Don't play around with me, M/N; I hate that. All I want you to do is distract him while I sneak in and dispatch the kid."

"W-Why do I have to do it?" My voice shakes, and I curse myself. I can't be sure, but I think I hear movement from the other room.

"Because you know him, and I won't be able to get close otherwise. Come now, M/N, it's not like you're killing him. Do it for me. I'm an old friend, remember?"

"Old friend my ass."

Those were not my words. I watch in awe as a kitchen knife sails through the air, cutting X clean across the face and cutting off a few strands of hair. He drops his own knife and I run over to my brother, who stands trembling with anger in the entrance to the kitchen.

"Get. Out."

"Come now, Chase, don't be like that-"

"I said get out!" My brother shouts suddenly, and I'm aware of how angry his eyes are. Like storm clouds, "Get out and go back to your job, you filthy worm! And if I ever see you near my brother again, I'll make sure that your body is so torn-up that your own mother won't be able to recognise you!"

X stand there, silent, blood dripping down his face, his emerald eyes set in a stony glare. He turns and walks to the front door before kicking it open and proceeding to leave. Chase locks the front door firmly after him, fumbling with the lock because his hands are shaking so badly. I sit down on the couch and take out my D-Gazer. I press on the number Shark sent me, and wait for Kite's face to appear on screen.

"M/N? What-"

"No time to talk. Hart's in danger," I say, "Call Shark, and I'll meet both if you at Heartland Tower."

I look at Chase's from the corner of my eye. He's not there. He must be in his room, thinking over ways to kill X without getting into trouble with them.

"Sorry, bro," I whisper, "But I'm gonna have to skip school today too."
