"She probably never wants to see my face again, so just drop it already. I'm going to bed. You can explain everything to Shinoa." and with that I walked off, leaving Yuu behind still smiling like an idiot to himself.

Yuu woke to the sound of birds chirping in the cool air. The first light of dawn was just starting to filter through the trees. He yawned and stretched. Sleeping on the ground in the cold stiffened his muscles. He glanced over at Mika's bed and noticed that he was already gone. Maybe he went to see that girl already. Yuu smirked at the thought.

He decided to wake himself up by taking a little walk around the camp. As Yuu neared the perimeter, he saw a certain vampire. Mika was in a sitting/crouched position on a fallen tree. His arms were wrapped around his knees. He had the hood of his white cloak up and was staring out in the direction of the forest. Yuu frowned and walked over to him.

"Oi, Mika!"

"What?" Mika huffed annoyedly. He didn't move to look at Yuu.

"Don't you have somewhere to be?"

"Look, I already told you, I don't want to go over there again. She already hates me!"

"But the least you could do is check up on her, right? Besides, we really need those directions, and believe me, you don't want to make Shinoa or Mitsuba mad." Yuu shuddered at the thought. Mika didn't move. Yuu waited expectantly.

Mika sighed, "There's really no way I'm going to get out of this, is there?"

"Nope, no point in even trying." Yuu said as he leaned against the tree.

"Tch." Mika clicked his tongue. "Whatever. Don't start thinking that you persuaded me."

"Sure." Yuu said with a grin. Mika glared at him and then jumped from the tree with a powerful spring, leaving Yuu standing alone on the edge of the forest.

(Reader POV)

I woke to the throbbing of my head. Ugh, it felt like I had a hangover. My lips were dry and I felt feverish. I reached over and grabbed the glass of water that was left on my nightstand. The water was cool and refreshing on my parched lips. I sighed and flopped back down on my bed. My fingers wandered to my neck. I felt the two small puncture wounds where Mika's fangs had pierced my neck. So it wasn't all just a strange dream as a result of some strange mushrooms I probably had for dinner last night.

I doubted that I would ever see him again. Thinking about it made me feel lonely. Everybody I ever grew attached to seemed to come and go. Ever since my parents...nothing was quite the same. I let out a deep breath and closed my eyes. Without realizing it, I drifted back into a light sleep.

When I opened my eyes, my room was flooded with warm light. The drapes covering my window had been pulled back to reveal a beautiful morning. There was a vase of freshly picked wildflowers sitting on the windowsill, releasing a beautiful fragrance into the air. I furrowed my brow in confusion. Why...how? I looked around my room and saw Mika standing in the corner. I gasped in surprise. He was so quiet!

Mika looked hurt at my reaction to him.

"Sorry, I didn't see you there. You surprised me!"

"It's fine, it happens a lot."

"Oh...well thank you for coming back. And the flowers! They're very nice."

Mika looked down at his boots. "It's nothing really." he muttered. "How are you feeling?" he glanced up at me.

"A little better I think." I sat up a little more in my bed. It was true, my headache was just a dull ache now. "So you came all the way back here just to check on me? I asked.

"Well, yes...and no."

I tilted my head in a questioning manner.

"I was also wondering if you knew the quickest way to cross this forest." he said while gesturing at the trees outside my window. "My friends and I need to take the less common route..."

"On the run?"

"More or less. We're just trying to avoid drawing attention to ourselves."

"I see. Well I grew up in these woods. I know them very well. I could probably help you out."

"Really? That would be great."

"Yeah. I would draw you a map, but these woods are actually uncharted. It's a tricky route that would be hard to follow on a map even if there was one."

"Oh..."

"How can I do this? I thought out loud. Mika looked at me while I thought for a moment. "The only way I can see you getting across without getting yourselves lost is if you get a guide."

"A guide? Where could I find one?"

I smiled. "You won't have to look far. Just give me a moment to get ready." Mika looked confused for a second and then realized what I was implying.

"Right, I'll wait for you outside?"

"Sure thing." as soon as Mika left my room I got out of my bed. I grabbed a backpack and quickly stuffed some spare clothes and other things that I might need inside. One I was packed, I changed into a fresh set of clothes. I put my hair back in a loose braid and put my shoes back on. I was probably going to regret doing this, but why not? It's not like I had a life or anything I would be missing. I walked out of my room into the kitchen and put the remains of what little food I had in my backpack. I would have to find some more on the road.

With everything packed, I slung my backpack over my shoulder and walked out my front door. Just as he said, Mika was there waiting for me. "Ready?" I asked him.

"Wait a second." he pulled out a long white strip of a bandage and walked closer to me. "Would you mind if I bandaged your neck? I'd rather that my friends didn't notice..." his face reddened slightly and he suddenly seemed interested in the ground.

I laughed. "Of course not. Go ahead." He looked back up at me and then gulped before he slowly moved his hands up towards my neck. He gently started wrapping the bandage around my neck, making sure to cover the two little bite marks. His cold fingers brushed up agains my skin, sending shivers down my spine. I could feel his warm breath as he focused on tying off the bandage.

"There, that should be good enough."

"Thanks." I smiled shyly.

"Oh great, now you're going to have to meet them."

"Are they vampires too?" I asked.

"What? No, they're definitely not." He chuckled lightly. "They're actually trained to kill vampires. They come from the Moon Demon Company."

"So why exactly are you with them if they kill vampires?"

"It's a long story, I'll explain it to you later. But we really should get going."

"Ok. Where are you guys staying at?"

"It would be faster if I just took you there. Here." He stretched his hand out. I took his outstretched hand with mine. He pulled me closer to him and then picked me up bridal-style in one swift motion. I felt my face heating up. "Hang on." Mika crouched slightly and then jumped into the air. I closed my eyes tightly and clung to him as we traveled swiftly across the landscape. As we traveled further, I got acclimated to the strange sensation of rising and falling and began to enjoy the ride.

I was somewhat disappointed when I heard Mika say that we were there. He set my feet down on the ground and let me go. Time to meet the group I would be leading through the forest.

"Brace yourself." Mika said.

Sorry it took so long for me to update! I honestly gave up on writing this for awhile, but I decided to write more when I saw that some of you wanted me to continue. Thank you for being so patient with me. Let me know if there are any spelling errors or anything else!
