"So...when do we leave?"
The Shinoa squad finally packed up all their belongings, which took longer than planned, it went a bit chaotic. There were some issues with taking down the tents and the distribution of the loads each person carried. Arguments broke out. Chaos ensued.
"Phew." I sweat-dropped. This was going to be such a pain! It was hard to believe that they were a well trained/disciplined team. It was most definitely not apparent in the slightest. "Ok, everyone set?" I silently pleaded that no one would bring something up.
"Yup, I think that's all!" Yuu shouted.
"Eto...then just follow me I guess." I smiled and lead the way into the dense forest. Everyone followed in a single file line, with Mika directly behind me and Kimizuchi at the rear. Yuu was behind Mika chatting his ear off. I doubted that Mika heard a single thing Yuu said. How was that kid so hyper anyway? It wouldn't last, hehe, I thought to myself.
*3 hours later*
"Awwww, my feet hurt! These boots weren't made for walking!" Yuu whined.
"Then what were they made for?" Mika questioned in an unamused voice.
"Fighting!" Yuu exclaimed.
"Why don't you fight your way through this brush?" Shinoa suggested from behind.
"Not that type of fighting! How long till we get there? Are we almost there yet?"
"If we keep up a good pace then it should take about a week." I answered in a singsongy voice.
"A WEEK?!" Waking like this everyday?! Shinoa will never make it!" Yuu sobbed.
"You're the one whose not going to make it." She snapped back.
"I call piggybacking on Mika!" Yuu yelled as he ran forwards and jumped at Mika.
"Don't you dare!" Mika grabbed Yuu midair and threw him down on the ground in front of him. As Yuu lay there "dead", he walked right over his body and continued walking.
"Oof! That's just cold Mika!" Yuu brushed himself off and waked a little faster to catch back up. "Ne, y/n."
"Hmm?" You turned your head to look back at Yuu. He had a suspicious smirk plastered on his face.
"Are you single?" You were take aback by his question and blushed a little.
"What the heck Yuu?!" Mika snapped. "Mind your own business."
"No, it's fine." I laughed nervously. I wasn't used to people asking me such questions. "Yes, I am. I have actually lived alone since the apocalypse first started." I looked down at the rough trail as I tried to force my bad memories back. Mika noticed my shift in mood and stopped Yuu from questioning me any further. I was thankful.
We kept walking through the thick woodlands, making slow progress and only stopping for short breaks. The air finally started cooling off as the sun sunk lower in the sky. I walked a little further until I found a small grassy clearing.
"Well set up camp here. We best hurry before it gets too dark." Everyone was too exhausted to reply, they just nodded their heads gratefully (except for Mika, who was just quiet in general and never seemed to be tired). We all took our packs off of our shoulders and plopped them down on the ground.
