The curse of Mary Jane

Chapter 5

The next day at school, there were murmurs of Cyandra. (aka Carter + Dyandra)

Mary Jane couldn't forget what happened the night before. Dyandra's words really scared her. All she could think about was Carter, and the fact that, he likes her, and she likes him, but how was she going to tell him how she feels, when Dyandra keeps getting in the way?

She sighed unhappily. She was about to walk up to her locker, but two girls were in her way.

"Hey, I heard Dyandra and Carter got back together!" One of them said.

"I know right! They're so cute together!..."

The two girls walked away before Mary Jane could hear anything else. She was unhappy.

Suddenly, everybody awed as the "couple" came in the hallway, holding hands.

They both passed by Mary Jane. Carter stared at her the whole time, giving her a guilty look.

Mary Jane glared at him as the couple walked away.

After school, Carter looked for Mary Jane. He found her taking things out of her locker.

"Hey..." Carter said with a small smile.

"Hi." She replied coldly without looking at him.

"I thought we could go to the movies this Saturday and-"

"Forget it." said Mary Jane still not looking at him.

"...Are you mad at me?" he asked quietly.

Mary Jane slammed her locker shut and finally looked at him.

"Why would I be mad at you?" She retorted. "All you did was send me mixed signals!"

Carter looked confused.

"Mixed signals? What are you-"

"I like you Carter." Mary Jane interrupted.

Carter stared at her in shock.

"But, you probably just used me to make Dyandra jealous."

Carter frowned, "That's not true," he replied. "Mary Jane I like-"

Carter paused and then shook his head, remembering what Dyandra told him. "...I'm sorry, but I don't like you."

Tears formed in Mary Jane's eyes.

"Exactly." She responded.

She took her things and ran away.

Carter didn't chase after her. He watched her run away, wishing he could have told her he did like her.
