Kaitlin had been staring at the ceiling for hours. It was getting a lot harder sleeping these days, even worse than how it has been in the last few years. Sure she had a fair amount of booze from her night out with Reyne who looked more sloshed than she was that he insisted on staying over. That was so not gonna happen especially after that confession which he thought she had not heard. That alone confirmed her earlier guess that there was just something different and palpable about the way he looks at her and how possessive he can get when the other guys at the office would hang around her workstation for a little chit chat. They just don’t stand a chance the moment he gives them the death glare and they would all scamper away. It would have been amusing but now she just doesn’t know what to think or how to feel about it. She was not in the best of moods to go out with him but having woken up with him snuggled against her back and feeling his breath on her neck, it just felt so wrong that she reluctantly agreed so he doesn’t linger in her sanctuary. All throughout the time they spent drinking and just listening to the acoustic artist at Attica, not once did she mention or asked him about it because it felt downright awkward to think of him as someone she could love. Reyne is a great guy who could and would care for her no matter what, but she just didn’t see anything beyond being her friend. She could think of a thousand reasons why nothing would come out of his declaration and more than anything right now; she was just not ready for any relationship with anyone, not in the near future or in the coming years OR she probably never will. It was enough that she had loved once and even if she lost that love, to her it was Life, Caleb was her Life and it damned felt like everything was right in her world until five years ago when he left. That was enough for now because she doesn’t know if her heart could survive another heart break. Even through the many years, a part of her still hoped and patiently prayed that he would come back and if she was being honest with herself, if the time should come that their paths should cross; her feelings remain unchanged because the truth stands that she still loves him~ unconditionally. Kaitlin shook her head in a vigorous effort to clear it and pull it out of the clouds. There were just too much on her mind now and it isn’t helping that it is already Sunday and she had a design presentation the next day. She absently stroked Viper’s furs hoping it could lull her to sleep for a couple more hours before sunrise but it certainly didn’t help in the very least so she quickly got up and changed into her sweat shorts and sports tees. She was going to head out for a much needed run and a bout of kickboxing should help release some tension before she gets back to work. She was getting wired for unexplainable reasons and her furred companion and bedmate was only happy to indulge her that he jumped out of the bed and walked towards the main door waiting as he wagged his tail. The hallway was deserted at 6 am and so was the trip down to the lobby. The condo security, Ashraf greeted her with a bright grin in a still overcast morning.
“Good Morning, Ms. Kaitlin! Cannot sleep?” He said in an obvious Bangladeshi accent.
“Hello Ashraf! It IS a great morning, how are you?” Kaitlin briefly paused to greet him back and ignored his query. She was almost at the revolving doors when she heard him bid her goodbye.
“I am good. Take Ker Ms. Kaitlin.”
Kaitlin looked over her shoulder and smiled at him as she waved goodbye. Cool, soft wind hit her face and she smiled at the sight of the impending sunrise. It was a beautiful sight and early mornings have always been her favorite time of day. There was nothing better than the dawning of a new day and a renewed hope that it could someday turn out roses for her. After doing a few leg stretches she plugged in her earphones and scrolled to her work out playlist where Sebastian Ingrosso & Alesso immediately played on her I pod; she then jogged towards Orchard Road and made a circuit to Scotts Road and then got back half an hour later and had gone straight to the in-house gym to hit a few punches and kicks at the punching bag stand. It was well over an hour later and she was sweaty and immediately felt like an enormous weight was lifted off her shoulders. She surmised that her thoughts are now back into the present and she has her eyes back on the ball – to finish off the presentation and turn in early tonight. The new director, as she was told, will be introduced to everyone and will be in attendance to her presentation since it is his building that she was handpicked as her next project. It was odd to be chosen since there were more senior architects and engineers in the company but she wasn’t going to protest and neither will she be complaining. This is after all a much needed break to further carve the niche she was destined to become. Her ultimate dream was to branch out and eventually start her own firm, back home or elsewhere. She couldn’t wait for the chance to blow them away with the design concept she worked on. For now, she just needs to hit the showers and start working.
