Caleb’s face is about to split as he displays a shit eating grin at the sight of his Kaitlin sleeping on his bed.  It looked too good to be true and never mind that he looks like a love sick puppy because right now, he is simply enthralled by the placid planes of her face; and his hand still burned from the feel of her breast that fit perfectly in his palm.  It was already mid afternoon and she still hasn’t come out of her alcohol induced coma; she was really knocked down cold.  By standards, 4 pints of beer should be tolerable for a chronic drinker but Kaitlin does not do alcohol not even once; so it niggles in his conscience that he has driven her to do things beyond the ordinary like the extent of carelessly drinking by herself and getting intoxicated enough to put her at risk of being hit on or worse raped.  Singapore was known to be a relatively safe country with a very low crime rate and that women’s rights are enforced whereby any serious harm to women such as rape is punishable by life imprisonment and a maximum of 24 strokes of the cane.  He shuddered at the thought of another man harming his angel or even worst touching her in any way; and this drew out the protective and possessive instinct from within.  He stroked her cheek with the back of his index finger and reveled at the silkiness of her baby soft skin; her mouth was slightly ajar and her lips were chapped from dehydration.  Since the night before, she had not had any decent meal nor any fortifying drink so he contented himself from patting them with a cotton ball dipped in ice cold water.  Even with that, she was not roused from her sleep and  he was almost sure she would suffer the consequences of her excessive drinking but he will help her get through it.

He was drinking in the sight of her solemn face when the sound of her phone ringing to the opening notes of “Let Me Go” by Avril Lavigne ascended to signal an incoming call—Hmm…interesting choice of ringtone.  He wanted to ignore it but it rang for more than six times and he didn’t want to wake Kaitlin.  He knows he is not within rights to check her phone but still defied his better judgment trying to compensate by thinking it could be her mom who must be worried about her and that he could reassure her that Kaitlin is well and resting.

Yeah Caleb, who are you fooling? You haven’t even met her mom or much less talked to her because it scares the shit out of you.  His inner voice taunted him.

However, when he fished out her phone from her purse, the name that flashed on the screen was not Mom but Reyne’s.  He nearly broke the vibrating device and debated between  ignoring or answering.  And then the ringing died and an  incoming text flashed; her message was set to preview and the words—Baby please where are you?  flashed in the screen.  He completely lost all sensibility and picked up the call on the next ring and Reyne fired away like he has every right to ask.

“Kaitlin, baby where the hell are you?  I’ve been worried sick when Ashraf said he didn’t see you come home and you didn’t come to work today.  Hello!  Hello! Kait, please answer me.”

“Zaragosa.  Kaitlin is well and safe so you can stop your incessant calling and let her rest.”

“What the fuck are you doing with her phone? WHERE DID YOU TAKE HER? Damn it, Stifler if I find out you violated her I’d gladly go to jail after I gut you alive you asshole.”

“You ungrateful bastard. You can rant all you want but in the end she’s still mine.  Now, if you value your career, I suggest you keep your emotions to yourself and leave her alone, you hear?”

“Just because you’re a major shareholder doesn’t give you the right to manipulate our lives and our careers.  Kaitlin has gone through hell and back when you just fucking left her.  What now?  You suddenly had a Kensho moment and think you can just worm your way back?  You’re a cad Stifler, shame on you.”

“Are you quite finished?  You sound like a girl whose panties I stole.  You’re pathetic.  So you think I’m a scoundrel, well lucky for me I DON’T GIVE A FLYING FUCK what you or anybody thinks because all that matters to me is what Kaitlin thinks.  All that matters to me is that she woke up in my bed..in my home..here with me.  Consider this a fair warning, although I am thankful that you looked after my girl which I paid you to do by the way, there is no way I am leaving her ever again so better remember that because IT is a promise.”
