What the bloody hell just happened? Did Caleb just flirted with me?  Was he fucking serious about the upcoming weekend?  No!  The guy is insane and delusional if he thinks I am going with him; he will NOT ruin the only holiday I would ever have in months.  No way will I be vulnerable again and then what? Short of getting my heart stomped on and I fall into the deep abyss of grief again?  No way. NO.. friggin’.. way!

The party was in full swing, and after Kaitlin was requested to jam with Ted, one of her team members, singing a duet about “Distance” which was an original from Christina Perri and Jason Mraz, she felt wretched and planned on heading home. The duf-duf sound of party mixes could be heard from where she escaped to but Kaitlin was no longer in a party mood so she absently walked towards the pillar of a veranda overlooking the pool where she needed to get some fresh air back into her lungs.  That was an intense moment being in Caleb’s arms earlier and she hated the nostalgia of how wonderful it felt being engulfed in the warmth of his..of his..

Damn it all to hell!  He never loved me. This is crazy! Okay stop right there Kaitlin!  Stop right now.  It means nothing to him and he is playing the same game; ply you with his sexy quips and his..his hypnotizing scent of absolute hotness tickling your olfactory senses and…

“Aghhh!”  Kaitlin squealed at the feel of a wet kiss on her nape and the light touch on her arms.  “Shit Reyne you scared the hell out of me.  Don’t ever sneak up on me like that! Ugh!”

Kaitlin stepped out of Reyne’s hold and hugged her waist trying to keep the shudders at bay.  For a moment she half expected it to be Caleb since that was sometimes his style, where he hugs her from behind as she does the dishes or simply cooking their meal back in College.  But this, she never expected it from the more sedate Reyne.  She tentatively gazed at his face where he looked predatory, with his eyes all glassy and smoldering.  He didn’t say anything just stroked her cheek with the back of his hand and his index finger outlining the decolletagé of her dress where it nearly grazed her breast.  She stayed his hand from delving into more intimate parts squeezing gently.

“Reyne.  Please.”  Kaitlin said pleadingly.

“You’re so beautiful, Kait that it hurts to look at you.”

“Reyne, I..”

She didn’t get the chance to tell him off because Reyne swooped down to silence her with a kiss of such unbridled passion, framing her face in his palms.  The scent of alcohol assailed her nostrils and he tasted of brandy or whiskey or whatever that was.  She kept her lips together but failed after Reyne bit her lower lip that he took advantage of her gasp and plunged his tongue inside her mouth.  This was not the subdued and quiet Reyne that she knows.  His hunger was so palpable that it took all her strength to push against his chest to stop his unwanted attentions. Kaitlin touched her bruised lips, hands shaking from bottled up anger for being violated by the only friend she had besides Yza, her bestfriend.

“Are you quite finished with your assault of the lady Zaragosa?”

Came the arctic voice of Caleb who was a few feet behind her.  She groaned and willed the concrete floor to open and swallow her.  Not again.  And what is he still doing heeere?

“Sod off Stifler.”  Reyne’s slurred speech gave him away that he is obviously wankered; his feral stare never leaving Kaitlin’s face.  His intoxicated state is winning over his rational thoughts that he was already punching Caleb Stifler’s face to a pulp in his mind.

“Not if you don’t stop harassing her.  Sleep it off Reyne, you’re clearly not yourself.”

Caleb bit out.  After he reluctantly pulled away from Kaitlin, he watched her like no one else mattered which was the truth.  But more than that, he wanted to make sure no other guys at this joint would hit on her.  It was bad enough that the hungry stare from the men at his table while she was singing, already grated on his nerves.  Although he admits that the dress she is wearing fit her perfectly, hugging her curves at all the right places it fucking showed too much skin.  He never knew how the deep indent of her spine could look so hot. He shifted in his seat adjusting his crotch as he scoped the function hall and found Reyne sitting at the bar doing the same, he looked menacingly at Kaitlin like he was up to no good. When he saw Zaragosa chugged down the rest of his beer and stood, there was no doubt where he was going because Kaitlin exited the room at the same time.
