"Oh you may not think I'm pretty,
But don't judge on what you see,
I'll eat myself if you can find
A smarter hat than me.You can keep your bowlers black,
Your top hats sleek and tall,
For I'm the Hogwarts Sorting Hat
And I can cap them all. There's nothing hidden in your head
The Sorting Hat can't see,
So try me on and I will tell you
Where you ought to be.You might belong in Gryffindor,
Where dwell the brave at heart,
Their daring, nerve, and chivalry
Set Gryffindors apart; You might belong in Hufflepuff,
Where they are just and loyal,
Those patient Hufflepuffs are true
And unafraid of toil;Or yet in wise old Ravenclaw,
if you've a ready mind,
Where those of wit and learning,
Will always find their kind;Or perhaps in Slytherin
You'll make your real friends,
Those cunning folks use any means
To achieve their ends.So put me on! Don't be afraid!
And don't get in a flap!
You're in safe hands (though I have none)
For I'm a Thinking Cap!"And the sorting began. Lily and I stood and waited for our names to be called. "Evans, Lily" my friend slowly went up to the stage probably trying to shake any nervousness before getting in front of everyone.
Last time I saw her this nervous was probably end of the year exams in 5th grade. My parents wanted me to get a muggle education in case I was a squib like my older brother.
"Gryffindor" the sorting hat shouted from Lily's head. I was honestly surprised I think Lily should've been a Ravenclaw but I won't argue with a hat I'm just lucky to be here.
"Snape, Severus" a boy with greasy black hair went up to the stool confidently. He went to sit down on the stool but missed and fell. He fell to ground with a thud which knocked the grin off of his face.
The whole school erupted into a fit of laughter as the boy got up and sat on the stool. The hat was placed on his head as the everyone got quiet again. The hat barely had time to sit on the boys head before he was placed into Slytherin.
He didn't seem happy about it but he kept his confident smile but it faded when he sat down and started staring at the Gryffindor table, but at a certain Gryffindor. Lily Evans. That's who he was staring at.
"Potter, James" a boy with messy brown hair and glasses walked up front. You could tell he is a pure blood because the way he walks is like I'm better than all of you. He sat on the stool and flashed a smile at all the first years still waiting as the hat was placed on his head by Dumbledore.
"Gryffindor" the hat called out and James jumped into the air and shout " I knew it" and quickly went to his table with a slight blush. He sat right beside Lily. Which I could tell bugged Severus Snape a lot.
"Talley, Carolina" a shy nervous girl came out of the back of the great hall. She looked really really nervous since everyone was just staring at the shy girl with her blonde hair pulled up into a tight bun on her head. She wore nerdy thick glasses and seemed like she'd get into Ravenclaw just by the way she dressed.
She walked almost as slow as a tortoise almost like she was trying to compose herself before facing the whole school. When she finally picked up her pace it was 5 minutes since she has been called up to the stool. When she sat down she was sorted into Ravenclaw. No surprise there.
"McNeal, Claire" my turn oh great. I could feel my heart pounding like it was going to try and jump out of my chest. I tried to put on my poker face as I walked up to the stool on the stage. I want to be in Gryffindor but I have a feeling I'd be in Hufflepuff. I really want to be in the same house as Lily.
She's the only one I know here except for my cousin, Sirius Black, but his family doesn't like us since Mom married a muggle. They disowned her because she is a 'blood traitor' and now her offspring are half-bloods. I sat down on the stool and Dumbledore put the hat onto my head.
'Ooh you're a hard one to sort. Any house I could put you in including Slytherin'
please not Slytherin please sort me into Gryffindor I want to be with my friend Lily.
'No Slytherin ehh. Okay fine so either Hufflepuff or Gryffindor is the house for you. But you already decided which house you'd like'
please be Gryffindor.
"Gryffindor" the hat shouted. I smiled and went to the cheering Gryffindor table and sat across from Lily and James.
The rest of the sorting I really didn't pay much attention except for Sirius's sorting. He was sorted into Gryffindor as well much to his surprise and my surprise as well since his side of the family has always been in Slytherin. I guess I'll see if Sirius is different from the rest of our family.
