I was back with Quinn, all was well. But just as I thought nothing could ruin it, Jay walked in hiding a stake behind her back, "hey, Kota" she said, I turned around, Quinn was asleep, "yeah?," I asked, "can you put this somewhere so I don't kill myself?" She asked, something was definitely up. I took the stake out of her hand, "why would you want to kill yourself? Do you know my past?" I asked. "No, but it's just I think Josh hates me. . ." She explained.
"Why would he hate you? He loves you," I asked. "He's been, distant, I guess," she told me, "Jay, I'll tell you without a shadow of a doubt that he loves you, only you," I explained. "Thanks. . . NORTH DAKOTA!" she said laughing, "ha ha very funny," I said putting the stake in the crack of couch.
"Well, night," she said walking back to her room. Jay was one of the people you think you wish you never met, but you need her, you needed her. She's the one who dared Quinn to talk to me at that airport, I have so much to thank her for.
"Night," I stayed waving and going back to the edge of the bed in Quinn's room, she graduated early, then she woke up.
"Morning?" She asked tired, "no, love, not yet," I replied. "Why not?" She said pouting, "because it's late, not morning," I replied kissing her forehead. She grabbed my neck and pulled my into a kiss as our lips collided she had her hands around my neck and I moved to her left side as we had a mini make out session.
I could feel her slowly pulling away and curling up while putting her head on my chest. I embraced her with my arms, resting my chin on her head and drank in her sweet smell. It's morning now, I'm awake with Quinn in my arms listening to her steady breathing and her heart beat. I put a pillow under her head as I teleported to the kitchen and made both of us coffee. As I looked through the pictures on my phone of us I realized that my hair covered my scarred eye in all of them, not even showing the scars at all, in no pictures.
Of course the one on her phone had my scar as she said I looked sexy with my scars. I brushed away my bangs and ran my hands through my short, red-ish brown hair messing it up reveling all my face piercings. Snakebites, nose ring, and three cuffed earrings on one ear with four on the other.
I had pictures of when Cameron was alive, I got my father to send them to me, and I started at one, of both of us, smiling, something I rarely did when he died. I compared my broken self I am now to the innocent kid in the photo with the same green eyes, same hair, but so different.
The kid in the photo had a soul, laughed, wasn't dead, loved more than Quinn, the kid in the photo knew how to protect his loved ones, wasn't oblivious, was KIND! Had a SOUL! That kid WAS me! But now? Who is he?
I slammed my fist on the marble counter thinking about how Max has ruined me, I wanted to kill him, this time not fail. I decided to calm myself down I would head outside to the woods and stay out there for a while and look at the stars. I wonder if Quinn would want to come?
"Quinn?" I whispered as I slightly shook her, "w-what" she yawned. "Do you want to head out?" I asked, "it's like midnight where would we go?" She asked tiredly but waking up a bit. "The woods, to look at the stars," I replied.
"Ok, as long as I have my phone," she said crossing her arms and pulling the comforter over her shoulders. "Got it," I said hiding her phone in my jacket.
"Kota, give me my phone," she said standing up. "Quinn, go get a jacket," I said, she walked forward I knew what she was about to do, but I didn't have a shirt underneath.
"Dakota, phone!" She snapped laughing a little, "Ava, Jacket!" I said jokingly, Ava was her real name but she went by her middle name, Quinn, her full name was Ava Quinn Johnson. "No! Bad Dakota Hunter! Bad! Drop it! Gimme the phone!" She laughed talking like I was a dog.
"No! Bad Ava Johnson! Bad! Stop it! Put on a jacket!," I laughed. Soon enough she jumped on me and sat on my stomach, "last chance," she warned with a grin on her face. "Nope! Never!" I said stubbornly holding the phone above my head laughing.
She kept her knees by my sides, she laid on me reaching for her phone.
She gave up. "Fine! I'll put on a damned jacket," she said pulling off my hoodie, "Quinn, Cut it out!" I said laughing as she layers on my bare stomach "warm," she purred. "Quinn, cut it out," I said more seriously. "Then you can give me your jacket!" She said laughing.
"I can give you my jacket?" I asked as she didn't move from my stomach. "Yup! I just want to see your abs suffer from the coldness of the woods!" She exclaimed laughing. "Obviously you're awake now," I whispered. Quinn saw my phone on the counter and I forgot to turn it off. Oh god.... I thought as she got up and looked at my phone, "who are these kids? Is that you? You look so cute!" She smiled but then her smile faded and her face was suddenly full of sadness.
I stood up and pulled my hoodie down then walked to her. She hugged me immediately. "I'm so so sorry for you," she cried her tears staining the white hoodie I was wearing. "It's ok, it happened a long time ago, it's not your fault, I love yo-" she cut me off by grabbing my face and pulling me into a kiss.
I bit her bottom lip a little and she didn't waist time she was already running her hand through my all ready messed up hair and grabbed a little in a fist. I found my hands man their way to her hips, when she pulled away instead of wiping her tears away with my hand, I licked her face.
She laughed a little and stood on her tip-toes to kiss my nose still crying a little. I brushed some hair out of her face and she nuzzled my arm. I wiped away her tears and she walked into me and bawled her eyes out talking about her brother, Damien, the Phoenix, I had to tell her he was alive but I didn't want too.
I hugged her there and swayed with her for a while, "I'm guessing no woods?" I said trying to lighten the mood, "no woods," she confirmed. I picked her up and walked to her bed then sat down with her in my arms rocking her back and forth as if she were a newborn, but right now she was as fragile.
"I m-miss h-h-him," she stumbled, "I know, it's going to b-" she cut me off and got out of my lap. "No! No it won't! To get over Cam's death, Show.Me.Your.Wrists!" She snapped I held my wrists firm against my legs, "Show me your wrists!" She demanded holding them to her face, they were scarred all the way to my elbow and on my shoulder-scarred arm it went all the way around my wrists and to the top of my arm.
"Dakota.Nex.Hunter. Ankles, now," she looked furious, I didn't move I just pulled my knees to my chest. "Kota! Ankles!" She demanded tears rolling down her face, I hurt her, she's crying because of what I do. I showed her the insides on my ankles, most of the scars were new, some old, she looked from my ankles to my wrists then to my face, "where's the kid in the picture?" She asked crying.
"He's in a harmony that's off key,"
