Well, how do I explain three whole months in a short entertaining paragraph? I don't. That could be a whole nother narrative that I don't have the energy for. I'm surprised I have the energy for this one. Well, let's give a summary of my summer.
I fell in love.
Pretty short summary, huh? Well, the funny thing is that's just the start of this unexpected college experience, well at least the last couple of years. And I guess saying I fell in love over the summer is a little exaggeration. But I'm getting ahead of myself. Why don't I just start off with the two weeks before my third year in college?
It was a normal day, my mom was off at work the day I left but she made sure to leave me a note. My dad was in the living room, scrolling through local bars for sale on his laptop.
"Find one yet Dad?" I asked him. The contents of the laptop reflected off his glasses as he squinted harder at the screen.
"Not yet sweetie, are you ready to go?" He peeled his eyes from the laptop and looked to me. I nodded. "Great, let's get you to your condo, and then I'll call you about that offer I made to the bar off campus and see if Bradley and I got it." I just gave him a small smile as I readjusted my ponytail hanging loosely to the side of my head. My brunette hair was slightly frizzy due to the moderately humid weather.
Just then I remembered, "Dad! I have a ride to my condo. I forgot to tell you that Katie's car just got out of the shop." He gave me a blank look for a moment and then there was a knock at the door.
"Well looks like you're already not needing me," he joked around as he sat back down at the dining table. I gave a sideways smile, giving him a hug and kiss on the cheek.
"Love you dad, hope you get that bar cause the girls and I really need a place to play." And then I was out the door, Katie waiting for me on the other side.
"You ready to be independent women?" Katie said as we entered her red Lexus. I have to say that it was pretty nice for her family to pay for our condo and that it was such a nice one close to campus.
"You've been an independent woman since you were in Jr.High, you never let anyone tell you what to do. The only thing you've let your parents do for you so far is pay for the condo." I paused as we entered the car. "I mean, you got a scholarship, got a summer job to pay for your car and now you work as a babysitter 5 days a week. I don't know how you do it." I sighed looking out the window as Katie pulled into a Starbucks drive through.
"I can tell you the answer is pretty simple." She grinned.
"Oh really? What is it?"
"Coffee."
I laughed. "You know I hate coffee." She rolled her eyes like every other time I've reminded her.
"Yeah, you weird tea person-" she pauses as a lady over the speaker comes on.
"Starbucks, may I take your order?"
"A venti skinny nonfat vanilla latte. And a tall Teavana Oprah Cinnamon Chai Tea Latte."
"Will that be all?"
"Yeah."
"So a venti skinny vanilla latte and a tall Teavana Oprah Cinnamon Chai Tea Latte?" The lady relayed the order back. Katie furrowed her eyebrows in annoyance.
"A venti skinny nonfat vanilla latte."
"Oh, yeah. Sorry miss."
"It's fine."
"Your total will be $8.39. See you at the window."
As we pulled away I couldn't help but let out a giggle. Katie gave me an unamused look.
