Patrolling the borders of our pack grounds wasn't difficult, it was just never fun. Some would say otherwise, but after doing it for a couple of centuries; it's boring. I don't remembering how long I've been Alpha for, probably a couple hundred at most. It's sad to see friends pass away, but very annoying when I know they didn't die alone.

I know I sound like a brat, but it's true. Knowing they didn't die alone, it bugs me. Why? Well, that's because most of my friends died by their mate's side. They passed away, happy. Some humans nowadays wish for a long, young life. But are they willing to suffer the consequences for it?

A werewolf's lifespan is as long as any other human- if they are mated. If not, they live in an eternal loop until the day they find their mate, and their loop stops so the two could live full lives and die together. I outlived my friends, their grandchildren, and soon enough their great-grandchildren. I've been on this planet for so long, I just want to die already.

"Alpha?" I was pulled from my thoughts when Blake, one of the warriors called to my attention, "Not to be rude, but aren't you supposed to be patrolling?"

"Like I care," I scoffed, "the only real threat this pack has is the royal family coming after us or if pack of rouges tries to attack. The royal family is on our side, and the nearest rouges are either dead or downstairs dying."

"But sir, you'd never know." Blake answered.

"I will know when I fucking know, Blake!" I snapped, growling at him, "I don't need you on my tail all the damn time. What's wrong with you anyway? It's like I have a breathing shadow. Why don't you play with your mate or go out with your friends? I don't want to be disturbed anymore, do you understand me?!" Blake frowned, turning on his heels and back towards the pack.

"We're all sorry for you y'know." He said, "You're in pain Alpha, don't even try to hide it. You'll find your mate soon enough, and you won't have to be this, anymore."

"I don't have to be what?" I asked, "What have I become that you've grown to dislike so much, hm?"

"We don't hate you, we worry for you." Blake said with frown, "Please, we just want you to be happy again. I've heard from the elders, you've been miserable your whole life."

"I was never miserable my whole life!" I yelled, slamming my arms against the nearest tree, knocking it down, "I am not miserable, I am angry! Call it what you want, but all you should know is that I gave up on being happy when I realized being happy was a waste of time." I eyed him angrily, "Don't you have something else to do, Blake? Go off with your mate. Your presence is sickening..."

"Mike can wait for me," he said, "he may be my mate but you are my Alpha. It's my duty to keep you safe. In this case, kept you sane. I know you think happiness is torture, but that's not it. Being mateless is torture, and I should know. I experienced it for three hundred years. I know your pain lasted longer, but nonetheless we suffered the same. You will find your mate. It could be today or even tomorrow. Just know, you have a beautiful woman- or man, waiting for you. You don't need to have this unnecessary suffering."

"Unnecessary?" I questioned, and repeated, "Unnecessary you say? My mate could have died somewhere around the world, or doesn't want anything to do with me. And you say my suffering, is unnecessary?"

"No Alpha, I-"

"Enough!! I've had it with you tonight!" I commanded him using the voice of the Alpha, "Go home and do something, anything! Screw your mate in my room, break furniture, kill some rogues, I do not care! Just get out of my sight, NOW!" Blake whimpered loudly, lowering his head as a sign of obedience and loyalty right before he speeds off home to the pack house. I swear, if my mate won't be the death of me, Blake might instead.
