Charlie didn't want to believe them. Jackson was like a brother to her, there's no way he could become something as cold-hearted and ruthless as the kanima. What makes matters worse is that Derek is out catch him. No, not just catch him, kill him.

Scott and Stiles were carefully waiting for her reaction. They watched as her eyebrows knotted together and her head shook back and forth in subtle movements of disbelief. It was clear to them that she knew what the kanima was, and what it meant. She just didn't know how to process who it was.

The young twin stood up from her seat as Mr. Harris returned to the library with Jackson. Her eyes followed the movements of her friend as he stiffly walked back over to his seat, fiercely swiping at his watery eyes.

Mr. Harris grabbed his briefcase and made to leave the library, causing everybody to grab their backpacks and stand up as well. As soon as Mr. Harris noticed he let out a deep, cruel laugh. "Oh, no, I'm sorry. Uh, yes, I'm leaving. But none of you are. You may go when you're done with the re-shelving. Enjoy the rest of your evening."

Everybody turned to Charlie, staring at her accusingly. She sheepishly shrugged her shoulders. "Sorry guys, Ms. Watson seems to have over-estimated my shelving abilities."

Her apology lifted some tension in the room and the seven other students made their way to the book carts. Scott, Stiles and Allison brought one cart into the first row, Matt and Jackson brought another over to the opposite end and the twins wheeled the last one towards the middle row. Charlie immediately got to work, having done this many times before. She could hear Scott's group whispering towards the front end of the library and desperately wanted to hear their conversation. It was quite obvious that they were talking about Jackson seeing as that the kanima posed as their number one threat and all.

"You holding up okay?" Erica asked gently. Charlie placed the book she had just grabbed from the cart back down and lifted her eyes to connect with her sister's.

"I'm fine, it's Jackson that I'm worried about. He hardly knows what's happening to him." she sighed.

"Jackson's not the one you should be concerned about, Charlie. It's whoever he goes after next."

"You mean whoever the Kanima goes for next," Charlie defended. "Jackson's not a killer."

Erica Scoffed. "Oh yeah? Tell that to the mechanic or the couple in the woods, to Isaac's father!"

Charlie shook her head, refusing to take Erica's side. "That wasn't him, Erica. He wasn't in control. There's more to it, there has to be." she stepped away from the cart and walked towards her sister. "The Jackson I know wouldn't purposefully murder people in cold blood. Someone else has to be behind this. We should be focusing on catching them, the real murderer."

"Until then, Jackson's our biggest target. And as far as Derek's concerned he is the one killing people. We can't just let him get away with that, Charlie!" Erica exclaimed, drawing her hands out in front of her for emphasis.
