"That is my bed!" There was a noise of books falling and someone shrieked.
"Well mine was three feet away, I didn't feel the need to walk the extra mile when there was a perfectly fine bed not two steps from the door. You must be the mystery room mate. Kensington Adler, you may call me Kenzie." Aaris sat up on her room mates bed, and stretched out a hand, to say hi, in a manner of etiquette. She might be weird, but she was taught good manners.
The girl at the door had not moved at all, not even to pick up her books. She was dressed in the same Maple Hills uniform that Aaris was wearing, altered exactly the same way, with the addition of more make up than what Aaris saw fit for a school in London, but of course this wasn't London was it, and her long, very dark brown mess of hair curled to the illusion of luxurious layers no doubt with the use of an unhealthy amount of hairspray to hold the strands in place, and obviously, hair extensions. The top two buttons of her shirt, left open in a deliberate attempt to show off what was quite obviously not real cleavage. If there was one thing sexy about her, it was her skin color. A natural, glowing tan, that made her striking green eyes pop. Filipino, Irish cross, no doubt, Aaris thought.
"You will get to know who I am soon enough obviously, now if you will please shove off to your own side of the room?" She finally bent down to pick her books, sneering as she said 'your own side of the room'. It was the laughing from outside that made Aaris realize that the girl wasn't alone. As she sashayed her way to the desk to keep her books, two other girls followed her in.
Dressed subtly to imitate the first one, the other two girls looked like supporting characters of some teen movie.
"Okay. I don't care who or what you are, I want you to apply for a different room and get out of mine. Okay? I don't like roommates." Aaris caught the frustration in the first girls eyes.
"Well what if I want to stay? This room has the best view, two windows, and is at least twice as big as the others. I want to stay." Aaris tested the waters, daring the girl.
"well, we'll see how long you last, in that case" One of the 'others' spoke as she took a seat on her own bed, just observing the trio.
When Aaris didn't answer, she looked to the first girl again, "how long did the last one last?"
"A week! can you imagine! I was surprised she made it that far. She was a peasant." She threw a head back before letting out a hearty laugh, before revealing perfectly set teeth, the side ones protruding and more prominent, making her look like a vampire trying to be funny. She picked up a red lipstick from her dresser, "but oh I can already tell this one is going to be fun. I haven't had a room mate it a whole while." she hovered over Aaris. "Be a good girl okay?" she said making a pout as the other two girls laughed their heads off.
By now it was clear to Aaris that Maple Hills already had a Queen, and she was crazier than she herself. But it was Aaris's game after all, and she wasn't Sherlock's daughter if she didn't win it.
"I will." She nervously scratched her nose and looked around to the other faces towering over her.
"Good." the girl whispered and she took a seat on the bed. "I remember we didn't have a proper introduction. My name is Demi Hale. This is Victoria" She pointed to one of the 'others'. "and Ashley." She said pointing at the other one and putting her hand forward for Aaris to shake.
Aaris looked at the other girls. Victoria, now perched on the bean bag she had dragged from Demi's side of the room, and Ashley, sat with Demi on the bed.
"Okay. So, here is the game. we have a little tradition, for new room mates." Demi said, making the 'tradition' sound like a sacrificial event and turned to smile at Ashley, who was already grinning. "It's a game of truth and dare. We do it to all my room mates. It's perfectly okay."
"Self explanatory in case you have noticed that she is the only one who doesn't have any room mates." Victoria snickered.
That means the girls leave her, which is to say she harms them beyond imagination, but why is she still here. Aha, rich parents. But most people are rich here, which means her parents are special to the school. Right, she is the golden kid, and her dad is of utmost financial value to the school, which means she will pretty much get away with anything.
Power. Demi Hale fed off of suffering. It gave her a sense of power. That was her role in her life. To dominate.
Aaris's mind did all these calculations in under two seconds.
"So. Here is the deal. If you win, you are one of us. If you lose, we own you." Demi stated as she examined her perfectly manicured nails as if she has rehearsed it a million times.
"...and what if i refuse to do it?" Aaris said slowly, calculating her words, shifting glances from person to person. They think i'm scared, lol, She thought.
"You do have the option of changing rooms without all the pain" Ashley gave her a smile that was faker than Demi's boobs.
"and that is supposed to scare me? I'll pick the game. Let's play." Aaris grumbled, rolling her eyes in the process.
"Such fun!" Demi exclaimed like she was tigress who just caught her prey, her red lipstick and perfect teeth, glowing in the soft fire light. She looked beautiful and wicked at the same time, Aaris just didn't know what lurked behind those emerald eyes yet. "Here we go!" She took out an empty champagne bottle from her closet and the girls arranged themselves in a circle on the soft, peach carpet that blanketed the cold marble floor of the room at the farthest end of floor two of Jade hall. "Here goes nothing." Aaris swore she saw fire cackle in Demi's eyes and she spun the bottle.
"It's me." The bottle pointed toward Ashley and Demi. "I get to give you your dare." Demi smiled again, she was proud of her teeth no doubt.
"But I thought we were playing truth and dare." There was nothing new about an unfair game of truth and dare to Aaris, but she knew when to play dumb.
"We are." Victoria spoke for the first time, her icy glare empty of emotions.
what is this place and who are these people, Aaris wondered.
Sometimes, the most silent ones, are the most dangerous.
