Jo greeted me with a smile and a huge hug when I had walked in the door, but it didn't last long because soon she was rushing off to do things for the party. I smiled and chuckled a little as she hurried off.
"Oh!" She whipped around as she remembered to tell me something. "Andy's in the bedroom waiting for you. Everyone else won't be showing up for another 15 minutes so you guys have time. Oh, and I invited Kayla too. Hope that's okay!" Then she turned on her heel once more and ran off to whereever she needed to be.
I sighed and walked through the house towards Jo's bedroom. I slowly pushed the door open and was immediately greeted by one of Andy's giant bear hugs. I didn't waste time not hugging back. I could feel a few tears slip out of my tightly shut eyes and dampened Andy's shirt.
"I'm here, it's okay. You'll be glad he's gone soon enough. I promise." I nodded and sniffed brushing the past of my tears off of my cheeks.
"Y-yeah, I know. I just, I try to keep telling myself that, but I just," I let out a shaky sigh and a few more tears escaped, which Andy quickly wiped away with the sleeve of his flannel.
"I know. Come on, honey. Let's get you wrapped up." He led me over to the bed where he had laid out rubbing alcohol, wash cloths, and gauze. I sat carefully on the edge of the bed and watched him pour some rubbing alcohol on the wash cloth and he held out his hand.
Slowly I extended my arms and he went straight to dabbing my arms with the wet cloth, not noticing my small winces of pain. After finishing cleaning my arm he moved into the other one, and then my legs, just pushing my shorts up so he could see my cuts.
Andy then wrapped my legs in the gauze he had brought, making sure it was tight enough, but not too tight. He then set the gauze down, not wrapping my arms knowing that it would be really obvious that something was wrong. As he started rummaging through one of Jo's drawers I pulled down my shorts. The gauze was at a perfect length and wouldn't show. I sent a silent thank you to Andy. He always thought ahead on everything, well, at least most of the time, but always when it came to his friends.
When he finally found what he was looking for, Andy turned around and held it out in triumph with a huge dorky smile on his face. I couldn't tell what it was, he was holding it too high for me to see from where I was sitting on the bed.
"What is it?" My question broke the silence that had settled in the room one Andy had started working his magic on me.
"This, my dear who never wears make up," I raised a brow at him. I did wear make up, but it usually consisted of a colored eyeliner, mascara, and lipstick. The most drastic part about my make up was the color of eyeliner. "Is foundation. This should pretty much cover up your cuts. You'll have to be a little careful until the sun starts to go down, but after that you should be fine."
Andy plopped down on the bed once more and started covering the cuts one by one. One by one they faded into light pink lines that were barely noticeable. Andy took a moment to smile at his handy work before putting the foundation away again.
"Thank you," I breathed. I smiled a bit, feeling a lot less worried about the party now that my cuts had pretty much been covered.
"Any time. Now let's go get something to eat. I'm hungry." I giggled a little and helped Andy pack everything into his bag before heading out of the room to go great everybody else and get some food.
Andy and I each filled our plates before going to greet everyone who had come and were sitting in the grass and already eating. I sat between Andy and a huge tree, not really wanting to socialize much, but smiling and nodding like nothing was really wrong.
A few yards away I could see a huge pile of sticks, logs, and half trees that had fallen over. This years bin fire would end up being the biggest yet. Despite myself I truly smiled with anticipation. I had an unhealthy obsession with fire. It just fascinated me.
Scanning the rest of the yard I could see different games set up and waiting to be played, but part of me knew that we would never get to it. My friends and I weren't the "let's play outdoor games and run around" type of people. Instead we liked to sit in a circle and play Paranoia, or Never Have I Ever. The only ones complaining were the people who set up the outdoorsy games in the first place.
"Right, Marie?" My head snapped in the direction that my name had been called. Al, Andy, and Jo were all sitting in a bunch next to me. I was pretty sure Jo was the one who called my name.
"Huh?" I mentally slapped myself for the brilliant response.
"You and what's-his-face are through, right? Andy was talking about it," Jo hurriedly responded. I shot Andy a look, and the subtly shook his head, meaning no, he had not mentioned my self harm.
"Yes, he broke up with me yesterday, after rehearsal," I said slowly so I wouldn't send myself back to tears.
"Good riddance," Al mumbled before sticking a fork full of food into their mouth. "I hope you know that he was the biggest ass hole in town, and my dick is bigger than his."
"Yeah, yeah, yeah. I know, I know." I waved them off, not wanting to talk about it.
"Well, that's enough of that." Jo pushed away from the table with a huge smile on her face. "Let's get this fire going and party till tomorrow!"
