Aaron POV
I jolt awake, my dream leaving me with my heart hammering out of my chest and gasping for air. The same dream has been reoccurring for the past week, I would see this beautiful, jet-black wolf standing in the middle of a forest, staring daggers at me and just as I feel comfortable with its presents it charges. The dream always felt so vivid, so blood-curdling. I would bolt, my bare feet hammering against the ground, causing the sound of crunching leaves to follow my every move. Each second the wolf grew closer and when it was close enough it would pounce at me, right before its bared fangs would break skin I would wake. I shake off the feelings of unease as I turn on my phone to check the time. 5am, marvelous. I turn over in my bed, enjoying the last moments of tranquility before the hustle and bustle of the day.
I slip on my black jeans and get get dressed in my light blue button-up shirt.
"Aaron time to go I'm taking you to school today!" my mother calls from downstairs.
This is unexpected, my mother was always occupied, working overtime on a nine-hour work shift is not unusual when you are one the best lawyer in your department. I admired her for working so hard to help us after my father's absence.
"Coming!" I respond after realizing I had not answered. As I make my way downstairs my mom greeting me with a prepossessing smile,
"Good morning. How was your sleep?" she asked
"It was good" I responded not wanting to worry her with my problems, my mom hands me a bowl of cereal and began to ramble , "I know that it's not a five-star breakfast but you and I know I'm not the best cook and my boss gave me the day off just a little while ago so I was short of time but-"
"Mom!" I said ending her little rant, "It's fine I wasn't expecting anything and you being here is enough". My mom throws one of her breathtaking smiles at me.
"Thank you, sweetie, I'm going to wait in the car, meet me there when you're done ok?" I nod and continuing to devour my cereal.
Once I finish eating I do as I am told, quickly washing my dishes before heading out to the car. "Thanks for taking me to school mom," I state, as I get comfortable in the passenger's seat.
"No problem" she responds before we fall into a comfortable silence. My mom pulls up to the front of the school, Kingston High School 'home of the timberwolves'.
I climb out of the car, "Thanks for the ride," I yell over my shoulder as I shut the door. I head into the front doors of the school, sticking to the sides of the hallway. An arm gets thrown around my shoulder as I approach my locker. It is none other than Talen Harlow, my best friend of twelve years. He is 6'2 with dark brown hair and stunning green eyes. He is hot and very much sought-after don't get me wrong, but there is nothing going on between us. We are that typical brother and brother, best friends that are in all the movies.
"You look like shit" he chuckles
I throw him the bird while placing my books in my locker, switching out my homework books from last night for my chemistry and English books, my first two periods today. I slam my locker shut and continue to trudge down the hallway.
Talen and I head over to our class, chemistry. Chemistry is one of the only classes I have with Talen besides PE and English. My teacher Mrs. Granger, is an individual that gives off an exuberant and animated vibe. The class is pretty simple enough and she gives us a lot of time to work so we don't really get homework from her. As Talen and I walk in I notice that there was a guy sitting in Mrs. Granger's seat.
"There's a substitute here today so guess that means today is a free period," Talen whispered to me as we were walking to our seats.
As the bell rings, I take out my stuff and begin to work on my homework that I forgot to do last night. As I am about to start the substitute begins to introduce himself, "Good morning everyone as you can see Mrs. Granger out sick so I will be subbing for her today. My name is Mr. Lakey, I am twenty-seven years old and I graduated from the University of Southern California. So now that you know a little bit about me you guys should get to work. Your teacher has left me with the instructions but she says you all know what you should be doing".
