Amanda's POV
After I managed to swing my body up enough to maintain my position while I unhooked my pant leg, I continue my decent and take off running the second my feet hit the ground. I run for as long as I can until I come to a beautiful, secluded lake in the woods.
I believe Im far enough away now that I'll at least have time to rest before I run again, besides that I also took the most unlikely path a person in my situation could take. There were many other routes I could've taken but I chose the most difficult because I knew itd be the last one they thought an escapee would go down. This path led straight into the woods but to get there you had to squeeze through the 12 rows high barbed wire fence and briar bushes that easily reach up to my shoulder in height then on threw the brush that had grown up so much that it was like ww3 trying to get threw it all.
At the lake I realized how much this little adventure had taken its toll on me. I quickly made a little make shift bed out of pine needles that I found on the ground and laid down. Thanks to all the military training I had I was very well accustomed to sleeping out side and I actually liked it. Within seconds of laying down I fell asleep for the night.
***********Next Morning**********
I wake up to birds chirping, yawning, I sit up and look around in confusion for a minute until the events of last night come rushing back to me. "Oh my gosh," I yell to my wolf while jumping up, "we have to get out of here!" I take a quick look around trying to figure out which direction I came from, and once I've figured it out I continue my little adventure in the opposite direction through many more briars and brush. After going on like this for about 2 hours I have to stop to catch my breath. Upon stopping I hear what sounds like a car and just as I look up a black Silverado drives past me on a gravel road only a few yards in front of me that I was unable to see before due to the trees. I let out a breathy laugh of relief and begin walking to the road. Once I'm at the edge I look both ways to see if I can find anything hinting at where I might be, realizing there isn't anything within my line of vision I sigh and decide to go right. 3 and a half hours later I'm still in the middle of nowhere, sitting on a fallen tree to rest. While sitting there I begin to doze off from exhaustion when I suddenly hear a car coming. I wait until I'm able to see it before I stagger to the edge of the road with my hand out to stop them. For a second I believed they weren't going to stop but was pleased when they did and an elderly man rolled down the window. He appeared to be very friendly and I was proven correct when he gave me a welcoming smile and asked If I needed a ride. I gave him a grateful smile and nodded yes because I was so dehydrated at this point I didn't think I'd be able to speak. He leaned over and unlocked my door then pushed it open for me and it seamed as though he was just noticing my uniform for the first time in that moment and finally realized how bad of shape I was actually in. He gasps and tells me to get in and says he'll take me to the nearest hospital. I climb clumsily into the passenger seat and closed the door. This time it was almost instant, as soon as I leaned back I fell asleep. The next thing I knew I was waking up in a hospital bed with IV's in both arms and a breathing mask on, I take a look to my left when I hear a beeping sound and notice I have little stickers all over my body and they're hooked up to wires connected to a monitor of some kind. Im only awake a few minutes before a doctor comes in followed by a man in a marine uniform, and it takes me a moment to realize he's the commander of my old team, Charlie. "Hey, Maverick called me and said that you were here. He wanted me to take you back to base." In case you were wondering Maverick was basically the big boss and my current commander. I nod and begin to sit up so the nurse rushes to my side and starts taking out the IV's and removing the stickers, after she makes sure I'm good to go of course. Then she goes to get my uniform and my release papers. She then comes back and hands me my belongings while giving the paper work to Charlie. They both leave the room while I get up and change.
