I can do this.
I kept repeating that over and over in my head. This needed to be done. No, it had to be done. Quite frankly, this should've never happened to begin with. He's a married man with kids! Then again, we couldn't help ourselves. We became each other's addiction. One we never wanted to let go of, but one we had to end.
With each step I took, every reason that kept me hooked made itself known with a vengeance.
Step. His smile. God, that smile melted my heart and got it going. His smile lite up the room. It was such a heart-warming smile. It was so contagious. Every time he smiled, anyone near him couldn't help but smile as well.
Step. His eyes. Those blue pools that I could get lost in. You could see every emotion he felt in those deep blue pools. One look in his eyes and I was a goner every time. They held a power over me that both frightened and excited me.
Step. Those lips. God, those lips! Yes, they gave me that wonderful smile I love but it also gave so much more. Every kiss was mind blowing. Every time he trailed his lips over my skin, it sent pleasurable shivers through my body and set me on fire.
Step. His body. The slightest thought of his body pressed against mine sent my body into overdrive with such need and want. He may not be the buffest guy or hold the abs of the likes of Chris Hemsworth or Hugh Jackman, but he did have a nice physique.
Step. The everyday things he did. Sending flowers just because he wanted to. Step. Spontaneous dates that were simple yet wonderful. Step. His thoughtfulness. Step. His passion and charisma. Step. His heart. Step. His acceptance of my son Luke. Step. His love.
I came to a stop at his hotel room door. Taking a deep breath, I raised my arm and knocked on the door. There was shuffling on the other side with a muffled 'just a second' before the door opened to reveal Ewan, the man who stole the very heart I was about to break. Ewan was wearing his usual boots with dark jeans, a white shirt and his leather jacket.
He instantly smiled seeing me and opened the door wider for me to walk in, "I was just about to come over." He said. God his Scottish accent made him so much hotter. "What brings you here?" He asked closing the door
I bit my lip and turned to face him, "I..." I sighed, "We can't do this."
The smile slowly left his face, "What are you talking about?"
"We need to end this Ewan." I said gesturing between us "It's time this ends. It's gone on for too long."
"You don't mean that." He took a step closer to me
"But I do." I softly said looking down "We both know it's time for us to end."
His boots came into my line of vision and his hand gently cupped my chin making me look up at him, "We've been together for two years. Two years Rory. If it was time for us to end, it would've happened two years ago!" His blue eyes darkened with the emotions he was feeling creating this breath taking stormy blue
"That's two years of us sneaking around behind your family's back!" I softly exclaimed, "I can't keep being the other woman. I know what'll happen if this went public. I'd get the backlash and Luke... God I don't want to think about what would be said about my boy!"
Ewan gently moved his hands and cupped my cheeks, "I told you before and I'll tell you again, I know this will hurt them when they find out but I am not going to just walk away from you! I love you and Luke. I promise, I won't let anything bad be said about either of you!"
I placed my hands on his wrists and held onto him, "You can't promise that." I whispered, "Your family needs you Ewan. Just like I told you before, I won't be the other woman. I've been her, for two years now but no more. I know I told you I'd never make you choose between your wife, daughters and me. I'm sticking to that."
He shook his head and his voice cracked, thick with emotion "Don't..." He whispered "Please."
I gently placed my hand on his cheek, one last time, and savored the moment and feel of him leaning into my touch "It's time you return to them. It's time you go home for good." I gently said "I promise I'll keep the thought and memories of you to Luke good." I took a deep breath and sniffed as the tears slowly fell, "This is it Ewan. Once you leave, don't call, don't text, don't write, nothing. All contact stops here." My voice cracked just like both of our hearts, "Keep our memories close to your heart, cherish them and never let them go." I gently rubbed my thumbs over his cheeks brushing the stray tears "Work and fix things with your family. Luke and I will always love you and we'll never forget you." In more ways than one. I thought to myself.
Ewan pulled me into a hug and held me tightly to him with his face buried in my neck. I didn't say anything, I just held onto him with my all. Neither one of us wanted to let go. But like all good things, it was time to part ways.
He placed his lips beside my ear and whispered, "I'll never forget you. You will always be in my heart and I will always love you Aurora Nicole Montgomery." He slowly pulled back but then captured my lips with his. So much passion and emotion was emitted into this kiss. Our last kiss. It was a bittersweet moment. When we finally broke a part he looked at me, "Tell Luke I love him." He let out a deep breath
I gave a small smile and nod, "I'll let him know." I gave him an earnest look, "You know he loves you too right?'
He nodded and smiled, "I know."
"I will always love you Ewan Gordon McGregor."
He kissed my forehead and let his lips linger there for a moment longer before slowly pulling away, "Goodbye Aurora." He whispered
"Goodbye Ewan." I whispered back and stepped out of his room. Once I was standing at my car, I looked up at his hotel room window and saw him standing there watching me. "I'll never move on from you McGregor." I muttered "Nor will I forget you. I will always have you in my heart."
And soon I'll have a piece of you in my arms. I thought as I closed my car door and drove away.
