...me oversleeping. Ever since my alarm clock broke, it happens virtually every other day. I sprinted to the kitchen, grabbed a bagel, and slammed it into the toaster. I ran to my room and got dressed before you could say, "Slow down! You're going to give yourself whiplash!" By the time I was finished brushing my hair the bagel had popped out of the toaster. I put on my headband and ran back to the kitchen and devoured the bagel. I brushed my teeth while getting my backpack and lunchbox. I spit out the toothpaste, put on shoes, and ran out the door. I checked my phone to see if my bus had already left. 7:15. Good, 5 minutes to spare. And a new record for fastest time getting ready! And it's the last day of school, so I don't have to worry about it for another 3 months! Yay!
Not that I a second to breathe, allow me to introduce myself. Hi! My name is Lydia Lockwood, I'm 13 years old, and I go to Black Soot Middle School. My best friend is Katie Hillman. I love theater. My group of theater friends is called the Trust Squad (don't ask). And there was one more... Oh yeah! I'm well aware that I'm a character in a story (Although personally I think it's a fanfiction, I mean, the narrative is all over the place and too sloppily put together to be n actual book, but, whatever, that's just my opinion.) So now that I've officially shattered the fourth wall, back to the story!
I listened to songs on Metube until the bus showed up. I hopped onto the bus (literally) and sat down by my best friend Katie (you know, the one I mentioned in my little digression). She's a petite kid with short brown hair and green eyes that always wears a blue beanie. She's technically a year younger than me, but since she was born in early September her parents put her in my grade.
"Yo, Lydia," she said, "You watch the episode of Holmes last night?"
"Yeah, I watched it with my mom and her friend, Laurie. We were up for an hour afterwards just sitting around depressed. I can't believe they killed his wife!"
"You could say that Mollard... didn't throw away his shot!" Katie exclaimed.
"Katie. Stop," I said. Something else you should know about Katie. She always makes cheesy puns.
We talked about the latest news in every fandom imaginable until the bus reached the school. We walked into the building, barely paying attention to the people around us as we continued to talk to each other. Since we didn't have any classes together, we squeezed every ounce of time we could before and after school to talk.
"Are you coming to see the play tonight?" I asked Katie when we reached our lockers. I was doing Bye Bye Birdie outside of school, and Katie said her family was coming to see it.
"Yep! Now that I have my grades under control, my mom said I could go!"
"Sweet! Oh, just a fair warning. There's one scene in the second act that might not be suitable for Jean's eyes." Jean is Katie's little sister. She acts like she can handle older stuff, but she's still an innocent little girl (which is amazing considering she lives with Katie).
"Kewl. I'll see you later," Katie shouted as we went to our classes.
"See ya!" I called back.
Little did I know that this was the last normal day I would ever have. Well, normal by my standards.
