Before we left...

...we took a little stop at the armory. You seriously think we were just going to bust into the base without as much as a knife? Not on your life. Jane insisted that everyone take a machine gun, but I'm more of a sword kinda gal. I grabbed a basic Viking sword with a razor sharp edge. When I grabbed the hilt, the sword engulfed in flames. I didn't bother looking at anything else. Maria chose a bow and arrows laced with basilisk venom (It's more common than you'd think.) and a dagger for close combat. Jane took a machine gun. We all put on full body bullet proof armor underneath our clothes. It was invisible, light weight, and actually very comfy. Isn't paranormal technology great?

We left Uston and met up at the amphitheater. We walked down a path that was overgrown with brush. You know, for privacy.

"Alright, how are we planning on getting to Cincinnati?" I asked. Black Soot was on the outskirts of the city, but it was too far away to simply walk there.

"Sally is setting up a portal to the base in a creek nearby," Jane answered.

"Okay, now do we have a plan?" Maria asked.

"Go into the base. Save our friends. Blow something up if we have time," Jane answered.

"That is the worst plan I have ever heard in my entire life," I said sarcastically.

"Do you have a better idea?" Jane shot back.

"Actually, I do," I replied, "Jane and I will sneak into the base. Once we're inside, Jane and I will split up to cover more ground. If we find them, we'll contact each other using these." I handed Maria and Jane earpieces I had grabbed before leaving, "Jane, try to be as stealthy as possible since you have a machine gun. Maria, there will be a ventilation shaft to get into somewhere. Find it and sneak around. If you hear anything worth mentioning, tell us. If you find everyone first, get them out and contact us. If we get caught, then just go out guns blazing. Literally for you, Jane."

"How did you think all of that up?" Jane asked.

"I took a military strategy class a couple months ago," I answered.

Jane stopped for a moment as she got a mental message. It must have been from Sally.

"Sally opened the portal in the creek at the end of this path," Jane confirmed. We walked the rest of the path in silence. It wasn't until we reached the creek that something occurred to me.

"Guys, did anyone think of an excuse to tell our parents?" I asked. While my mom knew about everything that was going on, if she found out I went off to personally rescue my friends I'd be grounded until I was six feet under! Not to mention that Jane and Maria's parents wouldn't even know what was going on.

"I sent clones to our houses. No one will be able to tell the difference," Jane said nonchalantly.

"I hope you're right," Maria muttered. We stepped into the creek and a flash of light crowed my vision. I felt a wave of nausea and lightheadedness. If I didn't feel as if I was frozen in place, I would have puked. As quickly has it started, I was standing in an alley behind a garbage bin. My feet collapsed underneath me and I grabbed the side of the bin for support. Once I was stable again I notice Jane and Maria were still trying to get their bearings. Jane puked in the garbage bin.

"Where's the entrance?" Maria asked once everyone was okay.

"It should be nearby," Jane said as she started patting the wall for a secret entrance. I stayed behind the bin on guard duty. I started to lean on the wall, but I noticed I was going back way too far. I turned around and placed my hand on the wall, and it went through the wall like it was going through jello.

"I found it," I called. Jane and Maria walked over. I stuck my head through quickly to make sure that no one was on the other side. The coast was clear.

"Maria, change of plan. You'll come in with us. Find someplace high up to scout," I said.

"Sure thing," she replied.

We walked through the wall.
