Carl
Damon led us to Doctor Carson unusually slow. He occasionally would look back at Enid and I, smiling, but not at me. Every time he did this, I would pull Enid a little bit closer to me and glower back at Damon. I didn't feel comfortable letting him near Enid. It kills me to admit it, but I'm afraid that he's going to win her from me. Enid and I have been through too much to have Damon ruin our relationship. On the other hand, whenever Damon smirked at her, Enid would squeeze my hand tighter while turning her eyes toward me and smiling, which would put me at ease and sent shivers down my spine. I just keep needing to remind myself that there is nothing to worry about. She's mine.
Eventually, after the painfully slow walk which could have been only a two minute walk, we arrived at Doctor Carson's office. Damon held the door open for all of us. Maggie walked in first, then Enid, then me. Damon came in after I did and closed the door behind him.
Doctor Carson was sitting on a chair by a small desk with a computer on top, which had multiple tabs open on the screen and lots of "doctor things" written all over documents. Once he heard us, Doctor Carson turned to our direction and quickly stood up.
"Hello, Maggie. Nice to see you again. Hello Enid, Carl." Carson acknowledged the three of us.
"Hi Doctor. Sorry for coming so late. There was an emergency back at Alexandria and we couldn't come on that day. If it is okay, I would like to have my ultra sound today. Enid also has a wound on her thigh that we would like you to check out." Maggie told him as she moved toward the exam table that sat almost in the corner of the room. Next to it was another small table with a computer on top.
"Yes, of course. That's why I'm here." Doctor Carson smiled and nodded at us as he walked toward Maggie and tapped on the bed for her to lay down.
Enid also walked in that direction as Doctor Carson sat by the computer and Maggie laid down, which left me and Damon. Why was he still here? Why couldn't he leave us alone to view the baby?
"You don't have to stay here with us. You can go." I assured Damon, but he just stood there with his arms crossed and stared in the direction of the others.
"I think it would be in Gregory's best interest if I stayed." Damon said as he continued to look in the other direction.
I could tell that his mind was filled with bizarre things and that was the last thing we all needed. Why does he feel the need to stand here and watch us? His eyes weren't wandering, but staring. He seemed so focused, like something important was happening right before his eyes.
I guess I can't blame him though, there was a baby on the monitor and I guess that that's something worth looking at. Enid was sitting in a chair beside Maggie and holding her hand, which made me smile. I'm so happy for both of them.
Maggie is going to have a new family and so is Enid. We are all slowly learning that there is always hope, and I am learning this from Enid. She lost all of her faith after losing both of her parents. She was always so quiet and distant from everyone else in Alexandria before our group came. We opened her up and she has been pushing to become a member of our group. She has become close to Maggie and I. She has found a new family.
I continued to watch Damon when I realized that he wasn't even looking at the monitor. His eyes were focused on Enid again. I tried my hardest to hold in my grudge. If he touches her, or says anything to her, I will snap.
"Well, the baby looks healthy. If you come back in a few months, we'll check again. It will be almost time for the baby to be born by then, so we can determine the sex if wanted" Doctor Carson smiled at Maggie, who was grinning from ear to ear.
