It was an early morning the day they left; the sun had not even risen from its slumber. Colress entered Karin’s bedroom and with hesitation, placed a kiss upon her forehead.
“I wish things didn’t have to be this way young one, but I have to do what I have to do,” He thought to himself aloud.
Just as Colress was going to exit Karin’s room, the supposed sleeping Karin asked a question.
“Maria is sick isn’t she? Will she be alright?”
Colress put down his bag, sat down on her bed, and placed his hand upon her head as she still lay there, facing the wall.
“Yes, I’m afraid so. She doesn’t have much time left and at this rate she may die. That’s why we’re leaving; there may be some kind of treatment out there. They could help her.”
“O-Okay, if you say so. Just promise me you’ll find her help.”
“I promise.”
Colress stood upon his two feet and left the room. As he walked upon the shore, unsettling thoughts went through his mind. Colress was uncertain of what may be awaiting out there in the outside world, one thing was certain. He would find help for Maria.
Colress entered Maria’s room and carried her out to the boat. He placed her on a pad and took one last look at the island.
“Goodbye my son.”
