It just got darker and darker as we proceeded in.
"Michael, I'm gonna do something...weird. Just don't freak out, okay?"
I nodded nervously. "Okay Abby." It was so dark, I was confused on how she could see.
She parted hands with me, and took a few steps back. She whispered something inaudible under her breath. Her eyes suddenly glowed up, a bright red.
I gasped, and fell back against the cave wall. I slid down on my bottom, and blinked a few times to see if I was just seeing things. I wasn't.
"Michael, its okay." Abby walked toward me, her eyes shining as bright as the sun. A red sun, though. She reached her hand out to me.
"Abby...what..what are you?" I asked nervously, playing with my fingers.
Her smile faded. "C'mon Michael get up." Her eyes turned a dark shade of red. It frightened me.
I took her hand, and she pulled me up roughly. She rolled her eyes at me and continued walking.
"Abby, I'm sorry...if I said something wrong. I didn't mean to offend you, in any way."
She turned around and faced me. Her eyes went back to a bright red. "Its fine, just don't ask me things like that again." She said sternly.
I nodded, and began walking with her again. Her eyes led the way, just like a flashlight. I wanted to question her further about her eyes being able to turn red, but I thought it was best to just keep quiet.
When we were half way in, she stopped walking and turned to face me.
"Okay, it has to be somewhere around here," she said in a soft tone. She lifted up rocks and stones.
My eyes widened as she lifted up a huge boulder and tossed it like it was nothing. The large thud startled me, causing me to jump back a bit.
"Do you need help, Abby?" I asked, touching her shoulder. She was very warm, not cold.
Her head snapped back at me. She had an angry look on her face, "NO, DON'T TOUCH ME!!" Her voice was so deep.
I instantly removed my hand from her shoulder and walked backwards until I hit the wall. She's so bipolar! I don't want to be here anymore.. I stood there, watching her move rocks and dig into the ground.
After what seemed like an hour, she stopped rummaging and held something in her hand. I couldn't make out what it was, it looked pretty shiny though. The light coming from her eyes turned a light red again. She turned to me smiling, as she shoved the thing in her small purse. "I found it Michael," she said excitedly.
I smiled and walked toward her, happy that she was back to her sweet self. "What was it that you were looking for, Abby?"
"Its nothing too important," she snapped back with a bright smile. She took my hand in hers and laced her fingers through mine.
A fuzzy tingling sensation went through my body. My cheeks turned a bright red. I really like this girl.
As we approached the entrance of the cave, she turned to look at me. "This was fun spending time with you Michael. I'd love to do it again."
My lips curled into a big smile as she said those first words. "I'd love to hang out with you again too. How about next time we go to the movies? There's this new movie out, called The Outsiders."
Her face lit up with joy. "I've been dying to see it!! Did you see the trailers yet?"
I nodded my head, "Yep! It seems like a really interesting movie. We should definitely go."
She smiled, "How about Tuesday at 3? We don't have school that day."
"Sure Abby."
I walked her to her house. It was very, different. It looked like something from a horror movie. Broken pieces of wood sorrounding it, completely black. The sun didn't dare to shine on that part of the street. "T-that's your house?" I stuttered.
"Yes..why? Is there something wrong with it?"
"Nope, just asking. Well I'll see you at school tomorrow." I was about to walk back home, when she wrapped her arms around my neck, and nuzzled her head in my chest. I wrapped my arms around her back and squeezed her gently.
She pulled away slightly, our faces inches from eachother, our arms still wrapped around eachother. "You think you're getting away that easily? You almost forgot one of my sincere goodbye hugs."
I chuckled nervously. Scared at what might happen next. Her eyes flared with that red sparkle, that I know and love.
She leaned closer, cupped my face and pressed her lips against my cheek, then pulled away and smiled. "Goodbye Michael." She walked up to her porch step and waved.
My cheeks burned red. Her lips were so...cold. But I liked it.
