Since we had little to no Doctor Who in 2016, other than the superhero trope Christmas Special. Right at the beginning we see Bill get an interview with the Doctor, saying he does lectures and is really good at it.
We also got a hint at River Song and one of the first companions ever, his granddaughter. We then are told about Bill's somewhat uninteresting life, where she serves chips every day at a university. So she goes to his next lecture and he is on about time and how stuff seems laid out for you. Like a treasure map. He then calls it the name of the Tardis.
Bill then follows The Doctor and Nardole into a creepy alley with a underground building containing a bug metal door. Not too long after we see the girl with the Star In Her Eye, who is also Bill's girlfriend, oh yeah,,did I mention Bill's a lesbian?
Anyway, the star eyed woman is staring at a small puddle, and Bill looks at it, but notices something strange with her face. We then see a few more encounters between the two until Star Girl gets sucked into the puddle. So Bill ran to find The Doctor. She is tracked by her once best mate, who's turned into water.. Yep...
The rest of the episode is pretty good, they do a lot hopping about places, and the way Bill is introduced to the Tardis is entertaining.
So... Did I like it?
As a matter of fact, yes,,the episode was focused on establishing the new companion, Bill, and her new found bond with the Doctor, having seen her for only a single episode, I don't want to immediately come to a judgement on her. The references I found cool and heart warming. You can tell they took their time on this as the budget seems way higher, because they've had more time to shoot scenes and whatnot.
The monster at first seems lackluster and the way she was gotten rid of seemed rushed and frankly.. Lame. I'm glad the Daleks made a brief appearance. I know they are the the crown jewel of villains in Doctor Who, but it just gets old and we see them all the time. I don't hate the guys, but I feel like they need to either take a long ass break and come back rebooted or just gotten rid of entirely.
The Doctor was good, Nardole seems a bit irritating, I'm not gonna lie there. Bill seems very intriguing and seems one of the most original in the Revived Series
My Final Verdict : 9/10
Next week is about emoji robots, sigh. At least it looks vibrant!
Bye!!
