A/N
So I've decided to build some sort of lore around this, make some races, religions, gods, that sort of stuff. Might make a story on this but to be honest, I don't think I have the time, patience, nor the talent to, so if one of you lovely readers wants to then be my guest and write one helluva story. Meanwhile, I'm just content with writing these sort of things, much less work to do
Probably one of the most dangerous beasts you can find in the Mortal Lands (the world you live in), the Drefaí are the hound and wolves of the Unbound Lands, where most things humans would call "demonic" and "unholy" live. These creatures are commonly hunted by high class demons and are made to serve them, though they are very hard to capture without sacrificing a limb or two. The Drefaí are renowned throughout the Lands as the creature that can track anything, using its keen sense of smell and close connection to the ruler of the Unbound Lands, Jarvak. The Drefai are also extremely intelligent, which is one of the reasons why they are so hard to catch, able to solve problems almost like humans do.
Many times, the Drefai are used to hunt down humans who have broken pacts with a demon or other cases as such. Though now, they are used as gambling games to see which one can hunt down a human or some other creature first, they bet whatever they got on it, creating something similar to horse racing. Occasionally though, a foolish human makes a pact, or "Covenant" which is the official term, with a demon or likewise and they forget to keep their end of the deal. Now Demons, with their inability to travel to our world without sufficient power, usually send a Drefai for the human if they're ticked off enough, or drunk; usually both. This is why the Drefai are so high in demand to demons, they have the unique ability to travel between worlds, which is what makes them great tracking hounds, they can sense small rips or tears in the fabric between worlds and then poof they're in another world.
Now if you want to imagine what a Drefai looks like (which is a horrible mistake) then imagine a large dog, maybe even a wolf, the take away the fur, turn the skin an ash grey, give it giant muscles, jagged sharp teeth and claws, and last but not least, give it glowing yellow eyes and multiply the ugliness by 20 and you got a Drefai; well something like a Drefai. Though it is surprisingly stealthy for it's appearance, able to cross a field of broken glass without so much as a whisper (and it has been tested before). If you see one then pray you aren't its target, because it will not stop hunting until it has you in its jaws. So unless you want to be a dog's chew toy, then you shouldn't ever make a pact with a demon, no matter how good the deal is.
More information about them may be added later
