Chapter One:
She's Home.

🌺Madison's POV🌺

I was shaking in excitement, I was so anxious to see my best friend. I hadn't seen her in two years, and I had been counting down to this day. But, I noticed that the closer my mother and I neared to her stay, my mother would go extremely slow. At that moment, I had become too anxious to wait any longer.

I opened the passenger door, with my phone in hand, and plunged out of the moving vehicle. I scrambled to my feet and sprinted towards the house. When I had gotten to the door, only to realize it was locked. I spun on my heel and stared daggars into my mother, whom had just pulled up and exited the car herself.

As if I wasn't impatient as it was, my mother took her dear sweet time unlocking the door. The door that held my life line behind it. She was setting me up for failure.

"Hurry up mom, I don't have all day!" I spoke harshly to the woman in my treasured mind. Finally, she swung open the wooden door and I saw the beautiful potato that was my best friend. Alexis looked up from her seat on the floor and her face beamed with joy. She stood up immediately and practically tackled me. She pulled me into an embrace so tight I could scarcely breathe. I didn't mind though, for I treasured these moments with her.

As my mom greeted Alexis' aunt, Alexis herself pulled me into a separate room. The room seemed larger than I remembered. But that could possibly be the fact that it was under construction, for there was an add on bathroom being installed. Alex, that was my nickname for her, shut the door and looked at me with her signature smirk.

"Spill. Tell me everything that's happened over the past couple years!"

I sighed. The past two years hadn't been the best.

"My dad had gotten worse. He abused me. He physically and emotionally bruised me. We got into a really bad fight about six months ago."

God why am I saying this. I hate my past! Why do I have to tell her all the depressing stuff?

I pushed those thoughts aside and continued what I was saying.

"and he had a stroke. He died two days later in the hospital."

Alex's jaw dropped and she covered her mouth with her hand. "No way! Oh my god, what else happened?"

I let out a deep sigh and continued to speak.

"I decided to go into the medical field. I'm studying to be a cancer surgeon. I got a new phone and thats pretty much it. Im not very intriguing if you haven't noticed."

Why am I being so rude? I'm never like this.

I shook my head and gave Alex a reassuring smile, hoping she wouldn't want to know anything else. "Okay well I have a backpack with my clothes and everything ready for this week" she blurted out.

Everything for this week? What does she mean?

I cocked my head to the side in confusion. "Ready for what?" I quickly spat out, not noticing that my voice had cracked terribly.

"Ready for our sleepovers. I'm staying at your house for this whole week. Aunt Carolyn said it was fine, so I'm ready!" She answered back with a wide grin on her face. I smiled back, with a flutter of uneasiness in the pit of my stomach.

I could already tell at that moment that this was gonna be a interesting summer.
