'Hello, my name is-..."
"Isabelle, hurry up and get your butt down here or you'll be late for your first day of classes!" my mom shouts from the bottom of the stairs, disturbing my spontaneous 'rehearsal'. I've only been repeating that exact line for the billionth time. No biggie. But I still do not feel ready.
I glance into the mirror studying my outfit I had picked the night before. Black ripped jeans, black vans, and a black muscle shirt that I've been absolutely dying to wear. 'Isabelle, you will be alright.' I assure myself.
"Isabelle! Come n-"
I look over at my clock, 7:40am. I groan in agony, school doesn't start until 9. Sighing, I grab my red plaid shirt and start running down the stairs.
"SHI-" I missed a step, making my heart skip a beat.
"What did you just say?" My sister, Sophia, asks, preparing herself to call our mom. Snitch.
Sophia is the type to tell my mom everything, and I mean everything. From my love interests to my 'behind the back' eye rolls. She can never keep a secret, and I have noted that. Although I hate the drive that she has to get me in trouble, she is still my younger sister, my only sibling, so I have to love her.
"You're finally down. I'm driving you and your sister to school today." My mom states.
So that's why she wants me down so early.
"Let's go then." Taking my backpack and swing it to my shoulders.
"Not so fast missy, you need to eat."
"Ugh but mom, if I do eat I'll have t-" I get cut off by her giving me 'those eyes', the eyes that look like they are ready to strangle me any second now if I don't decide to move my butt.
"...- Yes mom." I place my backpack down and walk to the table to stuff my face with the pancakes that are drenched in maple syrup she had prepared.
I engulf the last piece of my pancake and turn my head to see the clock at 7:50am. Almost chocking, I ran upstairs to brush my teeth.
After speed brushing, I run back down the stairs, grabbing my backpack full of school supplies and go straight to the SUV that my mom and Sophia are waiting impatiently in.
"It's not 8 yet!" I wink, as my sister rolls her eyes. It's kind of a love-hate relationship.
As I adjust my seatbelt, Sophia kicks my seat. I glare at her through the rear view mirror and her face quickly changed from a smirk to an apologetic look.
That's what I thought. I place my earphones into my ears, start blasting music and zone out, hoping to stop those two from communicating with me. I close my eyes after my mom backs up from the driveway.
"Isa, sweetie. Wake up." Mom gently shakes me in attempt to wake me up. I flutter my eyes open to see that we are parked in front of a school that looks like it holds prisoners. Well, students technically are in fact prisoners.
Us students get told what to do, it's the teacher's choice whether or not we get to use the washroom, we get fed unsettling cafeteria food, there's just too many things in common between prison and school.
"Earth to Isa." She waves her hands in front of me. "Are you going to get going soon? It's 8:25, and I have got to go to work."
"Right, see you mom." I open the car door, while searching for people I know and shut it. Nobody. Feeling my heart pumping doesn't ease my overthinking about the possibilities of this whole day going wrong.
Slowly making my way through the entrance door into the foyer, I can sense several pairs of eyes on me. This day is going to be long.
"ISABELLE!" My best friend shouts from the other side of the foyer.
"Vinni? Is that you?" I haven't seen this guy in a few months due to traveling. We walk over to each other and embrace.
Vinni and I have been friends since junior high. Him, Michael and I were the three musketeers. But Michael decided to go to another school for who knows what, ahem.. girls.
Vinni is an average height, Hispanic boy who loves fashion more than anything. He always has to be on top of the latest fashion trends. He can be a little rude sometimes, but it's all out of love. Plus, I think it's also apart of his personality. It does hurt me, but I don't show any emotion towards his rudeness. I don't want to come off as weak.
"I thought you died." He blurts out.
"And you didn't bother to call while thinking that?" I frown.
"Nope." He says popping the 'p'. "..- Isa, I'm just kidding. I know you. You were too busy writing about insignificant topics this whole summer, of course other than going on trips you've been bragging about the whole month of school before summer break."
"You my friend, are right." I nudge him with my elbow.
"How's your father doing?"
The one question I never ever want to hear.
"Where are the others?" I ask to change the subject.
"Oh, they're all getting their school IDs in the Gym. Go quick before you miss it!" He says walking backwards towards the staircase, leaving me.
I take a sharp turn and bump into a rather slim boy wearing black joggers and Nike shoes. Too scared to look up at the face that had belonged to the body, I continue to look down. But out of curiosity I took a peak anyways. Being at 5 feet, the boy was probably 6 inches taller than me. The body belonged to an Asian boy with a manbun like majority of the school, including Vinni. His brown eyes were already boring into mine.
Breaking the stare, I look down and say sorry under my breath and walk away, leaving the boy in the middle of the foyer.
I walk into the gym and see a couple of my friends all waiting in queues for their school IDs. Determined to get my ID fast, it only takes me 6 minutes to wait in line, take the picture then leave with my school ID in hand.
