 A hand shakes my shoulder

A hand shakes my shoulder. It's my sister, Charlotte. Her eyes are wet with tears.
"I think you should see this." She whispers. It's the dead of night, and my sister has woken me. It must be important.  She leads me down the stairs, towards my parents room.
No. He couldn't have. Not again.
I look through the key hole, and sure enough, he has cheated on my mother.
But I guess that it's ok, because mother has most likely gone to the bar, and
probably making out with a complete stranger right now.
But it still hurts.
It's normal for my neighbourhood to do this kind of stuff.
Most of my friends parents have stopped loving each other a long time ago.
I don't see why this is different.
I sigh and run upstairs to my bedroom.
Well, our bedroom.
I immediately jump under the covers.
Charlotte says something to me before going to bed herself.
"This needs to stop."
I nod in agreement.

I wake to see Charlotte packing her suit case.
"Where are you going?" I whisper.
She jumps a little. I think I frightened her.
"I'm leaving." She says simply.
"What?" I hiss."You can't leave! You're the only one I have left!"
She gives me a grim smile and drops her bags.
"I'm sorry." She whispers.
"You'll die out there! No! I'm coming with you!"
She shakes her head. "It's too dangerous."
"Being out there alone is dangerous!" I yell.
She hugs me and takes my hands in hers. "I don't want to risk both of us." She adds.
I begin to cry. This might be the first time I cried since I was 7 years old, and that was because of a scraped knee.
That was 6 years ago.
Charlotte is 4 years older. She knows that I don't cry often, so she comforts me.
"It's ok." She whispers. " I'll leave in the morning. How about that?"
I slowly nod, pretending that I'm ok with the idea, but really I'm not.
I don't want her to leave.

When I got home from school, she was gone.
I called the police and she was never found.
Not even to this day.
