"I would do anything for a pizza right now."
"You just ate a ton!" I exclaim quietly with a smile.
"Hey, a guys gotta eat." He said with a small laugh. "You think I'd be used to it but I don't know if I'll ever be."
"What do you mean?" I asked almost silently as I looked at his face. He ran a hand over his black hair which was longer then when we had first met.
"I was deployed actually. I was home from an assignment when I heard of what happened to Samuel and I freaked." He let out a small chuckle. "You think that I would have better control of my emotions then that." He shook his head and looked down at the ground, avoiding my gaze.
"Max." The look on his face made me want to cry. I wished so much to reach out to him and give him a comforting hug. "It's okay to lose your emotions once in awhile. This time just didn't work out."
He let out a sad chuckle and kept his gaze on the ground, shaking his head. "You see the best in me don't you?" His looked up into mind.
Being the sinister person I was I only shrugged. A smile spread across his face and he laughed and I couldn't help but laugh too.
The bell rang and our outdoors time was over.
"Finally time for a shower." I mumbled.
Max laughed and nodded in agreement. "I know I can't wait!" He exclaimed.
We both stood and instinctively I brushed my legs and rear off.
"Hey Theresa." I turned to look up at him and titled my head questioningly. "Thank you, for being a friend. I love you for that."
The guards started yelling at the straggling prisoners, including us to get a move on.
"I love you for that too my friend." I replied quickly as I backed away. My heart was racing as I waved at him. He waved back before we both turned completely.
Joining the rest of the women I went to head to take a shower.
~*~
I had just finished my shower and had dressed when the alarms started blaring.
We were all forced back into our cells. The doors were locked and we were left in there. Our dinner was served to us that night and so was our meals the next day.
When we were let out of our cells two days later I went into the yard for free time.
He wasn't there.
He wasn't there the next day either, or the next, or the next. That's when the rumors started flying around about who did it. It, I didn't find out until almost a week later when I asked one of the other inmates.
"Oh him." The woman asked as she rubbed her hands together, hand over knuckle over and over against. She looked toward the fence and shook her head. "He was killed a couple days ago, thought you would of heard by now."
My face said everything. She explain to me that he was murdered, stab wound by a comb shiv into the chest. He bled out. The main attack was caught but there were multiple people who were conspiring for his death and maybe the death of others.
I felt my heart break.
He was gone, and I'm alone all over again.
