She watches their happiness from a distance. Their smiles like fangs digging into her heart and tearing it to pieces. Their laughs like painful shrieks resounding in her ears. Her head and heart pound from the pain.

She takes a deep breath trying to shut them out, to shut him out. They cause her so much pain, but she can never show them how much he hurt her. She can never let him know that she cares enough about him to let him hurt her.

Her eyes dart back up to his smiling face, his dark brown eyes. She clenches her jaw, determine that she will not longer let him hurt her, but she knows in the back of her mind that she will never be able to do so. She wonders why his silence hurts her more than any word he ever said to her.

She will see him and look him in the eye, but there is no recognition in his face of who she was, or what there had been between them, no glimmer of happiness reflected in his eyes at seeing her.

Quickly, she turns away. She must move on from him, move on from the pain he causes her everyday. She must give up these childish fantasies. She is determined. She is convinced she is through with him.

Yet, she always will look at him with a spark of sadness. She will always care for him. She will always be there for him. She will always wait, holding on to the tiniest scrap of hope.
