 Chapter ONE

Samantha walked quickly down the busy street, her messenger bag weighing her shoulder, but not impeding her walk. At just sixteen, she was considered a genius. She went to small honor's college in Rhode Island, and she was almost at the top of her class. Almost. Standing 5 foot eight, she was considered the most beautiful girl in school. He long golden hair complimented her green eyes and accented her red lips even more. She was not super thin, but she like how small she was. She looked very appealing in her plaid skirt and light blue polo. Her black shoes and socks hid her small feet. And right now all she wanted was to get home and sleep.

"Samantha!" Her friend called as she ran into her from behind, scaring Samantha and almost getting hit.

"Lucy!" Sam accused. "Don't do that. I could have hurt you." She turned, embarrassed, and started walking again. Lucy caught up with her and playfully pushed her shoulder in apology.

"Samantha, you know that self-defense stuff doesn't really work. It's for women who are desperate, and you aren't. At any time, you could have a nice boyfriend bodyguard, but you refuse to date any of the guys. I mean-"

"They're all jerks and just want to get me in a bed." She cut Lucy off. "And they are wimps. I scare them, and I'm not even violent." Lucy laughed and then kept hinting at a question as they walked down the street. Sam eventually rolled her eyes and gave in. "Okay, Lucy, what is it?"

"I wanna go to this club tonight. You know, get picked up and have some fun. But, I don't wanna go alone. It's dangerous, you know?" Lucy was the Valedictorian of the class, but she was a bad girl. She did all her work, but then she got bored...and did things. She was known for going to clubs and getting high. Sam saw no profit in it for her, so she tried to decline, but Lucy wasn't giving in.

"Come on, Sam. It's not like you haven't had any." She instantly regretted that as Sam's eyes grew sad and she nodded in embarrassment.. Sam had been raped by her drunk babysitter when she was thirteen. And had never gotten over it. "I"m sorry," Lucy apologized again. "I-I forgot. I didn't...I'm sorry."

"It's okay." Sam lied. She wiped the tears starting to form and looked at her friend. "I guess it couldn't hurt to take a break. But, what would I wear?" Lucy smiled, and they headed for Lucy's apartment to get ready.
