Sam paced back and forth while Lucy talked nonstop to Luke and Jim. They had taken the two of them out while Jake and the others stood against those huge monsters. She wanted to go back for them, but Luke said they knew what they were doing. So, she paced up and down the pier, looking over her shoulder for any sign of the men with fiery eyes. Lucy wasn't concerned at all. She was drunk, and acted like it. Jim had to put all of his efforts into making her keep her clothes on.
After about fifteen minutes, Luke tapped her on theshoulder and pointed to the four large men coming toward them. She wiped the tears that had dared to form, and ran to Jake. She hardly knew this man, but he was willing to fight monsters for her, so she had top trust him. She hugged him tightly, then fussed over him for a couple of minutes. When she was sure that he wasn't hurt, she apologized, backed up, and wen to pry Lucy off of Jim.
"What did they want," Jim asked Jake as they came closer. Jake made a smart comment, and Jim shut up.
"Sam, Lucy," Jake said as he walked toward them. "I need you two to promise not to tell a soul what you saw today, okay? Can you do that?" They oth nodded and he hugged them individually, before turning to his friends. "We are going to need to keep an eye on Lucy for a while. Jim, would you do that? I'm going to walk Samantha home, I want you four to talk with Sarah, and see what needs to be done. I want this whole mess straightened out. If we weren't prepared, Sam would have been dead, and that would not sit well with Charde."
Sam's mouth dropped open when she heard her last name. They were working for her father. He was the governor, and very powewrful. I wonder why he never told ME of any of this. I'm a good girl. She didn't listen to the rest of the conversation. Instead, she talked to Lucy about how theywere going to get home. They had arrived in a taxi, but they couldn't call one and have that person see them hangin out at the club with nobdy around. Jim informed them that he would drive Lucy home with the others. Sam was walking with Jake. He tried not to smile when her face lit up, and slowly backed away.
The friends said their goodbye's, and Jake made his way to Sam. "I'll walk you home, alright. Here," he handed her a large sweatshirt, and she put it on. Warmth returned to her shoulders and arms. "Are you ready? Which way?"
Sam started off toward the direction of her house. It wasn't too far away, maybe half a mile. The walk would be nice, and she could maybe get some answers out of him. Jake insisted on walking on the outside, and Sam teased him about it the entire time. After a few minutes of random conversations and laughter, Sam asked her big question.
"Why are you guys working for my father?" Jake stopped and looked at her, then nodded and resumed walking.
"Your father is a chemist, right?" She shook her head
"No, he's the governor, he can't be a chemist."
"Well, he is. He works on genetic mutations and such. There is an undergrund group that is mad at your father for something. He didn't say. Anyway, they want to kill him, and so he assigned us as his protection. Well, we recently intercepted a message that they are going after yo to get to him. I mean-"
"But we aren't that close." She interrupted. He smiled and patted her shoulder.
"But he cares about you very much." He responded gently. "And he does love you. And THAT is why the stags are going after you."
A small old vendor came up to them and offered a glass of water to Sam. "It's free," he explained. "Made special, just for you." She thanked the man, took the cup, and lifted it to her lips. Jake knocked the cup out of her hands, picked the man up, and threw him in the river next to them.
"Run," he said. Sam began to argue with him, but three huge beasts jumped out of the river, and surrounded her and Jake, They had the body like a tiger, but skin like a whale, and a mouth like an aliigator. They were huge and fast, and very, very aggressive. Jake puched one in the face, and pushed sam outof the ring. She watched helplessly as the battle unfolded
Almost ilike magic, huge fiery wings appeared and spread out, hocking the huge beasts. He lashed ot with his fists, striking and pushing and trying to stay alive. The huge beasts disregarded his hands and lunged for his body. One bit his leg, and tore. He scremed in pain and dropped to one knee. As another charged, he used his wings to lift himself, making the two charging from behind and in front to kill eachother with their huge, sharp teeth. Jake nodded and dove in.
He used his superhuman strength and tore a tooth out of one of the dead animals mouth, and faced the third. They circled eachother, Jake limping. The two took small jabs at the other, then, the hulking beasts lunged for Jakes heart. Jake smoothly sidestepped and thrust the tooth into its skull. The carcass fell lifeless to the ground.
Jake limped over to where Sam was, and she saw all the bite marks and scrapes on his arms and the tears in his clothes. He was barely functioning, and any human would be dead by now. But he wasn't a human, he was an angel.
After a very long walk, Sam and Jake finally got into the door. Jake immediately collapsed. Sam panicked. She ran to the bathroom and got a whole bunch of towels. Then, she took a huge bucket of water and dumped it over his body. She had to cut off his shirt and wrapped the bandage she had anound his ribs to stop the bleeding. She had to use all her strength to pick him up and put him on her bed. His huge wings burned her hand once or twice, but she wasn't paying attention. She then found his cell phone, and called Luke to explain the situation.
