She wakes up, panting.

Every time she closes her eyes, she sees the same dream; a sensation washes over her, of longing and emptiness like a crashing wave. Her heart restricts with the shadow of a feeling that never leaves her, never really does.

Maine curses herself for being the way she is, right now. Ever since that trip to the beach with her friends, she could not erase the dread within her. Ever since she laid her eyes on that lone house at the end of the deserted beach, she could not shake the feeling that she has been missing something for so long.

She closes her eyes and sees the same thing: of a reaching out to someone who isn't there, who is never there; of missing someone she never knew.

But tonight is an exception.

For the first time, she sees someone other than the sensation of one. For the first time, she sees someone walking away from her. Maine wakes up panting, clutching her chest in the attempt to calm herself. Who the heck is that person haunting me? She stands up and leans on the wall, trying to catch her breath when a wave of nausea washes over her. Walking towards the door, she tries to drag her feet towards the exit; her head spinning and all is black.

"Dei...Dei...pinatawad na kita....ibigin mong mabuhay para sa sarili mo.... Dei, nais kong malaman mo na kahit anong pang nangyari, ikaw pa rin."

Maine turns at the sound of the voice. "Who are you? And why are you messing with me? Hindi kita kilala and hindi ko kilala kung sino si Dei na sinasabi mo kaya wag mo na akong guluhin pa. I don't know you and I don't fucking need you in my life right now. Leave. Me. Alone."

The person who has been haunting her, turns around for the first time. She gasps at his face as a wave of familiarity echoes through. Maine stares at the person smiling at her, his eyes saying otherwise; a mix of remorse and despair. His eyes encompasses an entirety of emotions that makes her want to run towards him, an attempt to get him out of his misery.

What the hell are you thinking, Maine? She muses, she then faces him head on and says, "Hindi kita kilala, sino ka ba? Bakit ayaw mo akong tigilan! Hindi ako si Dei!"

He stares at her as a beat passes between them; him closing his eyes in defeat, finally giving her a genuine smile. "Dei....sana, sana....mahagkan kitang muli....sana....."

Maine reaches out to him.

"Maine? Maine? Wake up, MAINE!!!!"

Maine abruptly opens her eyes and sees her friend staring back at her, relieved. "What the hell was that, Maine?" Cristina reprimands her. "I come home at 3 in the morning and see you sprawled on the ground! Akala ko namatay ka na or may nakapasok na dito sa bahay natin. Ano ka ba!"

She sits up and looks at everything around her. Maine glances at her friend who is looking at her worriedly as she stands and gets her keys, dashing out of their apartment amidst her friend's cries for her to come back.

She drives towards the place which haunts her dreams, towards everything that disturbs her norm. She heads towards the place where it all started, that fateful day on the beach. She sighs as she parks her car. Maine slams her car door and runs towards the house that never left her. She breaks in the abandoned house as she tries to gasp for breath "I'm here. Andito na ako!" she yells at no one in particular "What do you want from me? Bakit mo ba ako ginugulo? Ano ba ang kailangan mo sakin? LEAVE ME ALONE!" she stomps her foot and the floor creaks as a wooden plank crashes revealing the hollow underneath. She stops and familiarity sets in as she reaches out and grips the letter in between. Her hands tremble as she opens the yellowed paper, terrified it might tear.

Minamahal kong Richard,

Mahal kita. Mahal na mahal.

Patawad. Hanggang sa muli nating pagkikita.

Dei

Maine's breath hitches as her legs fail her and crashes down, unable to take all the sudden emotions overwhelming her whole being. She gasps and reaches for a lifeline, something to hold on to; to make sense of what is happening. Staring at the letter before her, she tries to rationalize everything but stops when she feels warmth cascading down her cheeks. Her hands tremble once more as tears fail to stop, drenching the letter she's been holding on for dear life.

"Who are you?"

Maine's world stops as she slowly turns around and sees him. The person that has been haunting her dreams; the person that she wishes to escape from and gravitate towards at the same time.

She looks at him and he stares back at her, shock evident. Time seems to stand still as they continue to gaze each other, neither willing to talk. He slowly moves towards her and everything slows down as he stops before her.

"Finally, I found you."
