„Hey, Yami! You got an A again, huh?" Joey grinned and punched Yami's shoulder lightly. Yami chuckled and smirked: "Seems like I am quite good in biology!" His best friend chuckled and then pouted: "Why do I always get C's? That's unfair! Give me a bit of you luck!"
Yami smiled: "I would, but I don't know how!" Joey still pouted: "Yeah, right! I bet you do!" Yami chuckled and put his things into his bag: "Come on! Don't be like that! Let's go to the Game Shop and get some new Duel Cards!" Joey smirked and nodded. He put his things into his bag and stood up. Yami chuckled and stood up, after he had put his things into his bag properly.
They both walked out of the school since their last class was over and down the street, towards the Game Shop. The friends were talking happily and smiled. Yami was always happy. He was happy since he was fifteen years old and he never stopped smiling. He could cheer everyone up. Even the saddest person started smiling again, after they saw Yami's bright smile.
Yami and Joey crossed the street after the traffic light turned green. The teen with the star-shaped hair turned his head to the left and his eyes widen. A car was just a couple of inches away from him. The driver stared at Yami shocked and Yami stared back. The driver tried to slow down the car. Yami opened his mouth to scream, when suddenly someone grabbed him and pulled him away; the car stopping next to Joey. Yami landed on the hard asphalt and slowly sat up with a groan. His head was hurting and he rubbed over his forehead. "H-Huh?"
A small boy was sitting in front of him and looked at him worried: "Can you hear me?" Yami blinked and shook his head: "W-What?" The boy was nearly invisible. His eyes shone brightly in a violet tone and calmed Yami down again. "W-Who are you?" Yami whispered shocked and lightly scared.
The boy smiled slightly: "I am happy that you are alright!" Yami still looked at him confused.
"Yami!" The teen looked up again and the boy started to vanish. "No! Stay!" Yami whispered louder and Joey kneeled down next to him: "Stay? I am still here!" He laid a hand onto Yami's shoulder: "Seems like you hit your head pretty hard..." Yami shook his head and slowly stood up again: "No, I am fine! I just thought I saw something!" Joey also stood up: "No one was here!" The driver of the car ran up to them: "I am so sorry! I didn't saw you and I couldn't slow down! I hope you are alright!" Yami smiled: "Don't worry about it! I am alright! I feel completely alright!" The driver looked still worried: "I will give you my phone number! Call me when you need to go to the hospital! I will pay the bill afterwards!" Yami still smiled: "That won't be necessary, but thank you!" The driver nodded slowly: "Alright... If you say so!"
They said their goodbyes and Yami and Joey continued their way. "Are you really alright?" Joey asked concerned. Yami chuckled: "I am completely fine! Really!" Joey sighed: "How can you be so lucky?" Yami frowned lightly: "I don't know..." He looked around, when Joey wasn't looking. Who was this strange boy? His body felt strange. He felt warm and safe, when he saw the 'Ghost-boy'.
Yami wanted to see him again... as soon as possible.
"There is the Game Shop!" Joey smiled brightly and pointed to the small shop. Yami looked up and nodded: "Yeah. Come on!" They walked faster and Joey opened the door to the shop.
An old man with gray hair and violet eyes greeted them: "Hello and welcome at the Kame Game Shop! Oh... Hello Yami and Joey! It's good to see you again!" Yami smiled: "Hello, Gramps!" Yami and Joey were at the Game Shop nearly every second day. They knew Solomon Mutou really well.
Yami jumped onto the counter, while Joey and Solomon talked with each other. His eyes widen lightly: "W-Who is that?" Solomon looked up: "Who is who?" Yami picked up a picture frame and looked at it. The exact same boy with the big, amethyst eyes and the soft smile looked at him.
"That's Yugi," Solomon sighed sadly and took the picture frame. He looked at it and stroked over it fondly: "My grandson..." Yami tilted his head lightly: "Your grandson? We never saw him! Where is he?" The old man sighed: "Yugi died four years ago... It was a car accident..." Yami looked at him shocked and Joey laid a hand onto Solomon's shoulder: "We are sorry to hear that, Gramps!" Yami nodded and smiled sadly: "He was probably a great boy..." Solomon smiled slightly: "Yes, he was! He was always happy and smiled. He was a smart boy. Yugi loved to play games and to hang out with his friends... I miss him..." Yami hugged Solomon and patted his back: "He really sounds amazing!" Solomon smiled: "Thanks, Yami!" Yami let go of him again and smiled: "You don't have to thank me!"
Joey also smiled: "We should go now, Yams! It's already pretty late!" Yami looked at his watch: "Yeah... you are right! My mom will probably already worry." Joey chuckled. Yami's mom always worried about everything. Yami hopped off the counter and smiled: "Let's go!"
Yami opened the front door of his house: "I am home, Mom!" His mother ran up to him and sobbed: "Yami! Where were you?!" Yami chuckled and smiled: "I was at the Game Shop with Joey! Everything is alright!" Yami's mother looked at him and poked his nose: "Stop worrying me so much! You are going to give me a heart attack one day!" Yami smiled and kissed the cheek of his mother softly: "I love you too, Mom!" He walked past her and upstairs to his room. He closed and locked the door behind him and tossed his bag aside. After he got a mirror, Yami sat down on his bed and leaned the mirror against the wall. "H-Hey?" Yami looked around and back into the mirror. Something moved behind him and he stared at the spot intensely. After some more seconds the stature of the small boy appeared next to him: "Hey, Yami!" Yami smiled and looked at him confused: "Your name is Yugi, isn't it?" The boy nodded: "Yeah, I heard it when you talked with Gramps about me!" Yami asked: "Are you always by my side?"
Yugi blushed lightly: "W-Well... Kind of yes... but when you are under the shower or change your clothes, I always look away!" Yami smiled slightly: "But why are you here anyway?" Yugi sighed and sat down on the bed cross-legged: "That's unpleasant... I don't know if you really want to hear it..."
Yami chuckled: "It can't be that bad!"
The petit boy sighed again and looked down: "I... I am your soulmate, Yami. Your significant other. Your one and only true love." Yami's eyes widen and he mumbled: "How dare you! How can you say that?" Yugi flinched lightly: "I-I am sorry, Yami... I didn't mean to d-" Yami interrupted him: "What? You didn't mean to die? Well, seems like that didn't work!" Yugi stared at him in shock and sadness and Yami immediately regret his choice of words.
"Do you think I like being dead? Do you think I like being alone? No one can see me and the only purpose of being here is making you happy! I try my best! I try my best to make you happy! Some people lost their soulmate like you did, but their soulmates don't give a shit about them! I am the one, who made you happy! I am the one, who made you smile! And you have nothing better to do than insulting me?" Yami looked down ashamed.
He didn't mean to be so harsh and cold. It was just quite the shock to hear, that the only person you could be eternal happy with died.
Yugi sighed and slid in front of Yami. He laid a hand onto Yami's cheek and caressed it soothingly: "I am sorry, my dear. I didn't mean to yell at you. My heart is breaking when you look like that... that's why I want you to be happy! I will always be by your side! I will never leave you. No one else can see me, but I can make myself visible for you." Yami leaned into Yugi's touch and closed his eyes, enjoying Yugi's attention: "Can you do that?" Yugi smiled softly and after some seconds Yami opened his eyes again to see a small boy sitting in front of him. "You are so beautiful" Yami gasped and stared into Yugi's bright eyes. Yugi blushed lightly and smiled: "Thank you." He didn't know why, but Yami felt like he knew Yugi for years already. He felt safe with him. Yami reached out and slowly laid his hand onto Yugi's chest, where Yugi's heart should be. There was no heartbeat.
Yugi smiled sadly: "I am sorry..." Yami shook his head: "You don't have to be! It's not your fault!"
His soulmate looked up at him and laid his small hand onto Yami's: "I swear that I will make you happy! I swear that I will always be by your side! I swear that I will protect you from any harm!"
Yami smiled and took Yugi's other hand, squeezing it lightly: "And I swear that I will never forget you. That I will always talk to you...
That I will always love you!"
