Veronica's jaw dropped. "You like Betty?"
Jughead frowned. "Yeah. How could someone not like her? She's sweet, she's got gorgeous eyes, and her smile is just..." he trailed off.
Veronica smiled. "Jughead, I think you should tell her how you feel."
The color drained from the brown haired boys face. "N-now?" he stammered. The thought honestly petrified him. What if she rejected him? He would be humiliated.
"It doesn't have to be right now. She needs a little time to heal."
Jughead nodded. "So what do I do for now?"
"Just let her know you're there for her. That's what she needs right now. Speaking of, we should probably head inside." Veronica answered, opening the door and exiting the car, Jughead on her heels.
Betty looked up with red rimmed eyes when her two friends entered the brightly lit diner.
"I was beginning to think you guys got lost. Is everything okay?"
"Yeah. Jughead was just helping me look for an earring I lost. Sorry it took so long," Veronica lied smoothly, sliding into the seat across from Betty.
Jughead took his usual spot on the outside next to Betty. "Who knew a diamond could be so hard to find?"
Betty laughed. "Every girl who has ever lost a diamond earring knows this Juggie. I'll be right back. I need to go to the bathroom. Someone order for me, okay?"
Not even a second after Betty left, Hermione Lodge showed up to take their orders.
"Hey Ronnie. The usual?"
Veronica smiled. "Thanks mom. But instead of a chocolate milkshake, can I have a vanilla one?"
"Sure thing, sweetie. What about you Jughead?"
Jughead glanced at the menu. "Double cheeseburger with fries and a large chocolate milkshake."
Hermione nodded. "And for Betty?"
Veronica blanked. "I should know, but I don't. Jughead?"
"Large strawberry milkshake and extra large fries."
Hermione wrote everything down. "I'll be back in ten minutes."
Veronica looked amazed. "Okay, how did you know that. I've been here for over eight months. I've been to Pop's with Betty at least twice a week, and I still didn't know that."
Jughead's face reddened. "She's been getting the exact same order since we were 12. I can't forget it."
"Aww. That's adorable." Veronica teased.
"Yeah, yeah. Hush it."
Betty slid back into the seat just as Hermione showed up with their food.
"Everything looks great." the three friends said simultaneously.
Hermione smiled and walked away.
Betty looked at Veronica. "You remembered my order?"
"Actually I didn't. Jughead did."
"Juggie?" Betty questioned.
Jughead looked down. "You've ordered the same thing since we were 12. It's not a big dea-" he was cut off when Betty threw her arms around him and burst into tears.
"Um.. Betts, why are you crying?"
She pulled back to look at him, tears falling from her eyes, what little remaining mascara she had on running down her face.
"It is a big deal," she sniffled, wiping her eyes. "Archie never remembered. He would ALWAYS order the wrong thing."
Jughead scowled. The more he was finding out about the relationship between his ex best friend and the person he loved, the more upset he got.
"Honestly how hard is it to pay attention to an order?" He thought.
"Archie's an idiot." Jughead muttered.
Betty smiled. "What makes you say that."
"Because he let go of the most amazing girl I know for someone who only cares about herself. You're an amazing person Betty. You don't deserve to be treated like that. Ever."
"You always know just what to say to make me feel better. Thank you." Betty yawned,  resting her head on Jughead's shoulder. Minutes later, she was asleep.
Veronica nodded in Betty's direction. "We should take her home. Should we wake her up?"
"No. I'll carry her to the car." Jughead whispered, trying not to wake Betty.
Veronica nodded.
The trio made their way to the car, Betty still asleep.
When they pulled up to Betty's house, Jughead unhooked Betty's seat belt.
"Ronnie go open the door and ask her mom if I can carry her up to her room."
Veronica left, and came back and moment later. "Alice said it was fine, but to make sure you watch out for the top step, because it creaks."
Jughead nodded.
He made his way into the Cooper household and headed up to Betty's room, avoiding the creaky step.
He laid Betty in her room. Before exiting,  he turned around. "I love you Elizabeth Cooper." he whispered.
