The Runaway

Chapter 8

Zoey Pov-

Me and Khalil have been looking for jobs lately. From McDonald's....Walmart...to City Trends. It's been really hard to look for part time jobs only being 15. So, Khalil and I have been going to school. Since we don't want  to get in trouble.

Right at the moment I was in Home Ec class. Learning whatever. I really wasn't paying attention. I was thinking about all  that have been happening  lately. My father's death...my birthday...and so much more. Oh yeah,my birthday was a couple weeks ago. I just turned 15 if you didn't notice. 

I was drawing anime in my notebook when the boy I helped a month ago came in the room. Yeah that's how long I've been gone. He sat in the empty desk behind me,which I forgotten. "Hey...whatever your name is" He said walking towards me. Yeah I expected that. No one really knows of my exists. I just waved at him,still looking down at my sketchbook. I smelt his cologne in my nose. Making me sneeze. "Bless you" The teacher said. I thanked him. Felt embarrassed because of how loud it was. Nearly the whole world heard it. 

I  shook it off the feeling and continued to drawl. Until the bell rung. I collected everything of mines then walked out the room. The boy came up to me. "Hey umm what is your name?" he asked. "Zoey" I said walking in the hallway. "Oh umm can I ask you something Zoey?" he said following me. I nodded my head. "Were you the one that helped me that other day?" he asked. I nodded my head. After I answered that he just looked at me. "Thank you" he said. "You're welcome." I said. He kept following me. I didn't know why. "umm is there anything else you need?" I asked. "yeah ahhh..nahh umm.." he was contemplating on what to say. I touched his shoulder,trying to calm him down ya know. "Yeah. I wanted to ask you if you wanted to go on a date on me.." he finally said. I was shook. Did he...Did he just ask me to go on a date with him?  He gave me a look. This confused,questionable look. I played it cool and said yes. His eyes lit up. He looked happy at my answer. "but what is your name?" I asked. Yeah I forgot..What a butthole I am. "Gianni" he said smiling. "well I gotta go Gianni,meet me after school and I'll give you my number,okay?" I said. He nodded. I walked away. 

I tried to look for Khalil but I couldn't find him. I needed to tell him what just happened. I looked around each counter but I had no luck. Although I did run into Rico. "Hey Mami" he said. I waved. Rico is this mixed dude with green eyes and soft curly hair. He's taller than I and Khalil. I wouldn't say I was attracted but he's cute. Really cute and he could get all the girls he wanted but chooses to be single. "Hey Rico" I said greeted him back. "What are you doing alone? Where is Khalil?" He asks me  Yeah thats how much I hang out with Khalil. No one has ever seen me without him. "He's somewhere.I just don't know where." I said. He nodded. "I can help you find him if you want me too." He asked. I thought about it for a minute until i consisted it. "Sure let's look for Khalil." I said. 

Me and Rico looked for him until we heard music coming from an abandoned room in the abandoned hallway. They should really fill these room up with clubs,other subjects,or make them rooms for the teachers to hang out. A teacher lounge. That's nun of my business though. I peeked into the room. I seen Khalil playing the drums with someone. I couldn't quite think of who it could be. I think it's a girl. I knocked on the door.  I heard some jumbling in the room Then heard a female voice ask"umm who is it?". "Zoey and Rico" I said.Khalil swung the door so fast then pulled Rico and I in the room. "How did you find me?" He asked. I shrugged my shoulders. "I just walked around the school then heard music coming from the abandoned hallway.Then boom I found you." I said. "Well you can't tell people about this." he said. I shook my head. "What are you guys even doing?" Rico asked;looking at all the instruments. Khalil looked at Rico. "May and I are working on music for our band we are making." He said. Rico started to laugh. "With May Jenkins?" Rico said. May nodded with her arms crossed on her chest. "What's so funny,Rico?" May asked. Rico laughed even harder. Probably because May is one the quietest girls since she's got here.  May came up to Rico and slapped him. Rico held his cheek."you're so lucky I dont hit girls." Rico said. May smiled at Rico's words. "Dont smile at my pain, puta." Rico said. I guess May knew Spanish because soon as he said that,May jumped on Rico. Hitting him. I walked over to Khalil;who was dying at the two. "So,I'm guessing you're starting a band for the talent show." I said. He nodded.

Okay,so about this talent show. Every year my school has one to show students talent. They give away money,tee shirts,and other prizes to the winners. "Let's hope you get the money." I said. He nodded in agreement. The fight between Rico and May got serious. "Yoo you guys need to stop." Khalil said. Me and Khalil ran to the two and tried to pull them away.

When the bell rang. I knew it was time for me to go. I had to find Gianni. I walked out of Science class to look for him. I stopped by my locker and grabbed all my things. Well the things I need to study with. "Zoey?" I heard a muscular voice say. I turned to see Gianni beside me. "Oh hellow Gianni."I said.I closed my locker and looked fronted towards him. "You ready?" I said. He nodded. I gave him a piece of a paper instead of say it out loud. You never know who's listening. "Thanks..umm I'll text you later okay?" He said. I nodded. He walked with his friends. Leaving me to walk to out by myself. I tightened my backpack on my shoulders and walked to the front of the school. I had to wait for Khalil and Chris. Khalil came up behind me. "Hey boo" Khalil said. "Hey boo" I said back. He sat next to me with one of his ear buds in his ear. "What cha listening to?" I asked. He pulled out his phone."Pull up by FREDD1E FRESH" Khalil said. "Is that on Sound Cloud?" I asked. He nodded. I grabbed the other ear bud and listened to it with him. Not as bad as I thought.

Chris pulled up shortly after the song ended. Me and Khalil walked to the car. Both getting in the back because Chris had someone in the front already. He looked scary. "Wassup y'all." He said pulling off. "Hey Chris" I said. "how was school y'all?" He asked. "It was cool" Khalil said. I nodded in agreement. He didn't say nothing after that. He started driving out of the school parking lot. "Oh yeah. Y'all this is my friend August." he said. "wassup youngins." he said smoking a blunt. "Hi" I said. Khalil pulled me closer to him. I guess he didn't trust August as much as I did. 

That whole ride was silent until August got dropped off to his house or his friends. Khalil let go of me a little. "Khalil would you mind if I went out on a date with Gianni?" I asked. He shrugged his shoulders. "Why do you ask?" He asked me. " Because he asked me out on a date tonight." I said. He looked at me. I looked at him. "Well what are you going to wear?" he asked. " I plan to wear a dress with a big button up shirt with some timberland boots." I said. He nodded.

When we finally got to Chris's apartment. I got a text from Gianni. He said Hello. I said Hi. I walked into the living room. I took off my sneakers. Relaxing on the couch with my lemonade in my hand. I looked at my phone.

Gianni-Whatcha doing?

Me-Sitting on my couch,drinking a lemonade.

Gianni-oh that's nice. I just got home from the bus.

Me-that's nice.

I turned off my phone. I walked into Khalil and I's room. Khalil was out with Chris. They were out getting some stuff. I forgot what. 

Gianni- what time is good for you?

Me- 6 pm

Gianni- okay

Me- Okie

After that. He called me. We talked on the phone while we picked out our clothes. Since I already showered this morning. I was fine to just change into different clothes.
