On the way to the police station, Patrick saw I was afraid.
"He'll be okay." He said, trying to calm me down.
I shook my head,
"That's not it. I'm afraid he won't get better. I'm afraid this is just another failed attempt. I'm afraid he'll try again. Patrick, we have to save him." Tears began to gather in my eyes.
"Do you know how he feels about you?" Patrick said, reaching for my hand.
"He loves you, he wants you. We can't save him, you can.."
He looked down again and let go of my hand.
My mouth just hung open, I have to save him? What if I can't?
I love him to. I have to save him.
Patrick pulled up into the police and we entered, the Sheriff said they had taken him to the hospital. He looked at me and saw I had been crying.
"Are you his girlfriend?" I shook my head, "No, he's just a friend."
He looks at Patrick, "Are you his... boyfriend?"
Patrick rolled his eyes and shook his head. The sheriff nodded and told us where the hospital was.
As we drove there I realized this was a part of town I had never been to.
The hospital laid in a grove of weeping willow trees.
We entered, I walked a little closer to Patrick. I didn't have good memories in hospitals, I was sick a lot as a kid.
He rubbed my shoulder, "He's okay.." he said, telling me and himself.
The nurse directed us to Pete's room.
I looked at him and immediately looked away.
He looked like a mess, his cheeks were drenched in tears, his clothing ripped, his wrists wrapped up, his eyes looked tired.
I slowly walked in, behind Patrick.
"Hey buddy! How are you feeling?" Patrick said, trying to cheer him up.
"Like shit." Pete said.
I stood in the back, just watching them.
I couldn't even speak, my eyes started burning, holding back tears.
"I bet. But we're here now." He said and rubbed Pete's shoulder kindly.
Pete looked up at me, I just tilted my head, trying to hide my tears.
Suddenly, Patrick's phone went off.
"Hello? Uh huh? Well, what I night! I'll be right over."
He hung up and let out a big sigh.
"Well, I'm sorry Petey. Looks like my Dad needs some help. I've gotta go. But Brooklyn will stay. Right?"
I nodded but stayed back.
"Alright. I'll be back as soon as I can."
Patrick smiled at Pete and turned around.
"You can do this." He whispered to me as he left the room.
I slowly walked to the bed, my head held low.
"I'm not dead yet, look at me." Pete said, reaching for my hand.
I gave it to him and looked at him in the eyes.
"I'm sorry." I croaked out.
"Why? This wasn't you. This was me."
Pete said, squeezing my hand.
"I wanted to be there for you, I could have helped." I looked deeper into his eyes. "I could have been there... I could have changed all of this."
He smiled, "No one could have changed tonight. It was all my fault." I hugged his arm.
"Stay with me? At my apartment? Until you get better." I asked, mainly just wanted him to be near me.
"Whenever they let me out of here. I'd love to stay with you."
He'd love to stay with me.
"You won't do this again will you? You learned your lesson?" I say still worrying about him.
"I think so, as long as I'm with you." He said rubbing my hand.
I let out a sigh.
After a while the nurse let us go home. Joe came and picked us up,
"Everyone feeling better?" Joe said.
"I think so." Pete replied, placing his hand in my knee. I blushed a little, but the darkness covered my cheeks.
"What do you say we get some milkshakes?" Joe states, I can hear the smile in his voice.
"Of course!" Pete and I said in unison.
Joe chuckled a little and turned into a Mel's.
We rushed in, I was really craving a shake.
Pete claimed a table and a waitress brought us menus.
"What kind do you want?" Pete said nudging my shoulder.
I blushed, "Strawberry, you?"
His hand rested on my thigh.
"I think I'll go for chocolate, Joe?"
Joe rolled his eyes when he saw how hard I was blushing.
I think I'll get Oreo."
Pete and I exchanged looks, "Oreo?"
"Yes, Oreo." Joe said, returning his gaze to his menu.
Pete and I rolled our eyes.
We ordered and soon our shakes arrived.
I took a sip. Mmmmmmmm.... I needed this.
Pete drank the whole thing within seconds, Joe soon followed.
"Woah! You have to savor it!" I say, I really love milkshakes.
Pete raises an eyebrow, "Can I try yours? Your way?" I blush and hand him mine.
He closes his eyes and slowly takes a sip. I can tell he's being sarcastic, but I still giggle.
"Yup, tastes the same." He says and rolls his eyes.
Once I finish my drink, Joe insisted that he pay, not that any of us would object.
We climbed back in the car and Joe started to drive back to my apartment.
As we drive I kept catching Pete staring at me.
It was getting pretty dark, I looked at the clock; 10:28.
As we pulled up to the parking lot, I got a glimpse of the moon.
It lit up a small portion of the sky.
I felt it on my face, highlighting my eyes.
I turned back and saw both Pete and Joe were staring at me.
"You look amazing." Pete said, blushing a little.
I shrugged and open the door.
"Thanks again, Joe!" He smiled and waved.
Pete and I walked up the stairs to my apartment, I fumbled in my pocket trying to find my keys.
Once I found them I unlocked the door.
"Welcome to my humble abode!" I say quoting The Lion King.
I don't think he got that I did that, but I laughed at myself.
I sat down and flipped on the TV, Pete sat next to me.
"What shall we talk about?" I said, this time quoting Indiana Jones.
He smiled, maybe he understood that one.
"Well, it's getting kind of late. Wanna get to sleep?" He said, yawning.
I nodded, we've had a tough day.
I walk into my bedroom and changed into my pajamas.
"Mind if I sleep with you?" Pete asked.
"Sure, you don't snore do you?" I say, raising an eyebrow.
Pete laughs and shakes his head. Then he removes his shirt, I feel so compelled to look away, but I can't. He's got a nice body, muscular, but not to much.
His tattoos fit him so well.
He then begins to unbutton his pants,
LOOK AWAY!! I tell myself, but it's no use.
He chuckles seeing me stare.
I look down and blush. I climb in bed and crack my neck.
"Woah! You can do that?!?" Pete says, wide eyed.
I nod, "You can't?"
He shakes his head and climbs in, next to me.
I give him a quick peck on the cheek, "Well, goodnight!"
He laughs, "That's all I get?"
I grin and climb on tøp of him.
I slowly trace his chin and go in for a kiss.
I hold his face and take in his smell again.
I disconnect our lips and whip my hair to the side, "Good enough?"
He grins and puns me down. He slowly kisses my neck and twirls my hair. He finally comes to my lips.
He kisses me deeply and gets off me.
"Now that's enough." He says, smiling.
I cuddle up to his shirtless body. He strokes my hair.
"All better?" I ask, looking up at him.
"All better." He answers, smiling in a comforting way.
