Somebody That I Used To Know- Chapter Six

No. This couldn't be right. He's dead. Clara closed her eyes, expecting the illusion to disappear during that time. She opened them to see him still standing there. Rubbing her eyes, she still found him standing there in the moonlight.

       "John?" She asked.

"Yeah, Clara. It's me. I'm here." He said.

       "But...you're...dead. How? Are you real?"

"I'm really here, it's really me. I promise." John explained.

Clara fell to her knees as she began to cry. John ran over to her and held her in his arms as the tears flowed down her cheeks and onto his sleeves.

He had expected her to react this way, especially after spending two years thinking he was dead. If it wasn't for the person who saved her in the submarine, he would have been. He would have to explain that to her later.

"I thought I would never see you again, John. How the hell do you explain yourself on this one?! The submarine blew up, and you were still on it when it did. You should have died! How did you escape?!" Clara screamed.

This was going to be harder than he thought, especially since he didn't know all of the exact details of the events on the submarine. He figured that somehow she had gotten into the escape pod and home to safety, but he could only begin to guess.

"It wasn't me, Clara..." John started.

"What do you mean it wasn't you? How wasn't that you, because he certainly looked like you?" Clara interrupted, confused as she ever had been.

"Listen, I had no control over the situation. You have to believe me.

Let's start at the beginning, shall we? But first, we should probably get inside, it's a bit cold out here, and I don't want you getting sick." He walked them back into the house and up to Clara's bedroom, where they could talk without risking her father waking up. He let Clara sit down on the bed and sat himself next to her, never letting go of her hand. "Okay, I guess this is it.

Time to hear the truth. Do you remember the night of the explosion?"

"Remember it? It was only the worst day of my life, so yes, I do." She snapped.

"Right. I figured. Anyway, the night before, my twin brother, Aaron, forcibly took my place. He drugged me and made the switch in the early morning, before you woke up. That entire time, he made it seem like he was me, while I was unconscious and tied up in the attic. I can only assume that he took the code from my wallet on the nightstand and gave it to you." Clara nodded, remembering the small piece of paper that had the words ' My impossible soufflé girl' written on it. "That's what I thought. He must have known that people were after me...that's why he did all of that. Clara can you do me a favor? Can you fill me in on what happened in the submarine?"

Not wanting to tell him everything, she told him most of the events that she remembered from that day.

"Well, this man came to the door, Dr. something. And you...I mean your brother...He fought him, and I came to help him using that sonic thingy from

Doctor Who. We got in the sub and I fell asleep. When I woke up, he...put me in the escape pod because we were in some sort of danger, and thinking he was you, I...cried. I landed on one of the beaches in Cardiff and took a bus home. I was going to tell your parents, but they already knew. They arranged a small funeral, not many people were there. I went back to school, and your parents left. They moved to America. Speaking of which, how did they know it wasn't your twin that died?" Clara asked.

"They...didn't exactly think he was alive in the first place. We were separated at birth, and they never found him, so they assumed he was dead." John explained.

"But, you found him, clearly. How?"

"I'll explain later. I want to talk about how you've been. Who was that bloke who was taken to the hospital?" John said with a worried look on his face.

"It was Alex McKnight." She answered, not wanting to tell him who he was to her yet.

       "Oh. Are you two...umm...together?"

"No. No. Just friends." Clara lied. She just got him back, she didn't want to lose him again over a few words.

"Good. I'm so sorry that I've been gone for the past couple of years. I got out of T.A.R.D:I.S. and proceeded to get my life back to normal. I didn't want to scare you, so I didn't plan on returning, but when I saw you again, I just had to come back."

"Do you know what kind of hell you put me through, John? You were everything to me. The day I thought you died, was the day that I lost everything that mattered! I..." Clara didn't get to finish because John leaned over and kissed her. It was just like two years ago. Everything was perfect. Clara was in love with him again, and happily returned the kiss, grabbing his collar and pulling him closer.

It was then that her cell phone rang. It was Alex.
