You were in so much pain that your complexion turned ashen. Natural golden skin sunken into something so lifeless, it scared me just to look at you. It killed me knowing that all I could do was stroke your hair and hold your hand. It barely seemed enough, yet already, your whimpers ceased, cheek nuzzling against my touch. From time to time my eyes drop to the midwife but mostly they were fixed on your face in a soft stare so that whenever you opened your eyes, I was the first thing you saw. Although I knew that the pain was inevitable, pain that I never knew a human body could bear, it still broke me to see you hurting this way.
The nurse shouted her final encouragement before I heard her. I never knew a baby's cry could sound as beautiful as it had at that moment.
"Its a healthy baby girl!" Cheers rose all around us, yet a certain pair of eyes had captivated me. The nurse wrapped her body gently with a pink towel, weighing her before handing the miniature baby over to me hands. I struggled to hold her comfortably due to my lack of experience and the mind numbing shock her presence has had on me. After she was settled inside my arms, little fingers twisted around my pinky. I watched the newborn peer through thick eyelashes, eyes wide with infinite curiosity. Her legs kicking in tiny jagged motions and perfectly etched mouth cooing in delight. When she stretched, her hands barely rose above her head. I wanted to clutch her against my body, but I was terrified to break her. My vision blurred and a droplet landed on her cheek. She reached towards my face, lightly caressing my tears.
"She's beautiful" I panted towards you. You were sobbing, face flooded with your tears and sweat caused by the toil of childbirth. Yet, I never saw you look as beautiful as you did then.
I laid our little girl's body beside you, wanting to share the beautiful moment as a family. In an instant, your hands felt her forehead as you mumbled sweet nothings to her.
"She's got your nose, and eyes Sehun"
"Her mouth and cheeks are yours"
I gazed towards the most important girls in my life and vowed to myself that I would protect you both with everything I had, even if it cost me my life.
I softly sang our song as your sweet voice soon joined in.
Just like how you softly
smiled with your eyes back then
If only you can fly into the
opened window of my heart
"Omma, why does this song make you cry?"
She bravely wiped her tears, her fragile smile cemented on her face as she carried her child towards her bed.
"Because it reminds me of someone" She replied, cementing a fragile smile unto her face.
"Someone who made you sad?"
"No Lulu, someone who made me very happy..."
