SONG FOR THE CHAPTER;

WAR OF HEARTS

RUELLE

➵➵➵➵➵➵➵➵➵➵

Jace asked me to look for warlocks powerful than Magnus who might've cast the spell on Jocelyn. She's asleep right now, surrounded by this type of force field. I don't mind doing this, it takes my mind of Alec's wedding, which is happening soon.

Izzy's helping set up the whole thing. She's really good at it, but it hurts to know that that it's gonna take place tomorrow.

"Have you narrowed down the list of warlocks more powerful than Magnus Bane?" Jace says from behind me, interrupting my thoughts.

"I've got it down to 20. But it's gonna be hard to figure out which one cast that spell on Jocelyn."

"I don't care how tough it is, we've gotta find him. Back at Renwick's, I let Valentine go. I won't make that mistake again. We gotta wake up Jocelyn, in case she heard anything about his plan."

"Have you spoken to Alec?" I ask.

Jace and Alec haven't been on good terms for what seems like forever. And even though I hate the idea of him getting married, I genuinely care for Jace and Alec's relationship. After all, they're parabatai.

"He's probably busy, with wedding plans and all. And I don't need to talk to anyone. Let's just stick to the mission, okay?"

He walks away from and I sigh, turning back to the screen and trying to look for the warlock.

Magnus asked me to come to his place. I don't know exactly why, but I come anyway.

I call out his name, and he appears with a glass of wine in his hand.

"Nice to see you, Evie. I wasn't sure if you'd come." he snaps his fingers, and a glass of wine appears between my fingers. "You know how I hate to drink alone."

"I didn't come here to drink." I say and place the glass on the table near me. "Do you have any information-"

"On the warlock who cast a spell on Jocelyn?" he interrupts. "I'm looking into it.. But I wanted to talk to you. About Alec's wedding."

"There's no conversation to be had. He's getting married.. You and I, we understand marriage very differently. He's a Shadowhunter.. This is about family, and tradition, honor-"

"Honor?" he asks. "Where's the honor in living a lie?"

I shake my head. "What are you talking about?"

"What about love? Even Shadowhunters fall in love, Evie." he places his hand on my cheek, and I lean into it. "He loves you Evie."

"If he loved me.. then he would call this whole thing off.. but he didn't." I sigh. "He didn't even explain why he's marrying her.. not the real reason at least."
