Chapter Seven: Only need them
On a late saturday afternoon, I found myself sitting in Damon's office chair in Castellan Building browsing through Marnie Willow's profile in Empire's website.
Gene (Dame's official driver/bodyguard) drove me here for an early family dinner. It wasn't anything grand, just me and my brothers eating out. It's Damon's idea of 'family bonding'.
Since I already snooped around (I found nothing interesting. Sad.) wala na akong ibang magawa so I decided to log in Empire's freedom. Mabilis wifi dito sa office ni Damon!
The main wall was filled with news about Morgan Fray's party this evening. I wasn't interested since I haven't attended an Elite's party or any party an Empire student ever threw. I haven't been invited either, well not officially. Lyndon gets a lot of invites and everyone assumes he'll tag me along. Since I'm his little sis and all.
How to get an invite? You have to have connections. Gate crashing is strictly forbidden unless it's declared a public party. Oh and the locations are always a secret. Malalaman nalang yon an hour before the party.
So yeah, Lyndon goes where he wants to go but he never tags me along.
After skipping through posts about the party, I skimmed through profiles of students to familiarize myself. Then I landed on Marnie's.
I still can't forget the jealousy in her eyes.
Do other people who has a crush on Lyndon look at me like that?
I know some people still believe I'm adopted, if Lyndon showers me with affection... Iniisip kaya nila... No. Holy hell. That's just gross.
But I can't take that scene off my mind...
I pursed my lower lip, scrolling through Marnie's blank profile. Hindi niya ba talaga ina-update 'to? Does she avoid being social that much? Or norm na ang blank profiles sa scholars?
I wonder what was in her head that moment. Had she imagined herself in my place?
Kung tama ang pagkaka alam ko, the rest of her class na hindi niya ko kasama ay advance placement which means she had it with Lyndon. Dapat hindi siya mag selos sa'kin kasi mas matagal niyang kasama si Lynd during class hours.
Why am I even thinking about how she reacted back at the dining hall? One reaction from one girl should not rattle me off.
Padarag kong binitawan ang phone ko, frustrated about how I'm stressing about Marnie Willow and her crush on my brother.
Or maybe I'm frustrated about the thought of friendship. I thought I was about to have a friend.
It was a perfect scenario. It happens in books all the time. Doon sa next chapter magkaibigan na agad ang dalawang character. I guess that doesn't happen in real life. Some fantasies don't happen in reality.
I sighed and picked up a pencil with our surname printed on it, custom made pa ito ha, before sketching.
Kinokopya ko lang ang skeleton figurine na nasa table when the door burst open. Expecting Lyndon, I lifted my gaze but instead I found a lady scowling at me with Dame's secretary cowering behind.
"Where is he?" The lady demanded.
"Miss I told you he's in a meeting right now –"
Gene appeared behind the receptionist at that moment, ready to take the lady away but I held my pencil up telling him to wait. Everyone knows who calls the shots here, since the big boss isn't present I'm the next best thing.
